It depends what is your objective really. In terms of SEO, it can has a little positive impact as it still represent a public share -> 1 backlink.
In terms of social engagement, that's worthless

A lot of people use fake shares to try to index. It also is supposed to make a page appear more popular to Google. No confirmation to if it works well or not for either, but I too occasionally do it to try to make a page look more naturally popular in proportion to its link building.
