This is just NOT true.
Sure it´s annoying and many times difficult but saying you can´t optimize a site build/customized with Elementor (or any page builder) is just not accurate.
There are a lot of things you can do to improve a website´s performance that has been built/customized with Elementor (or any page builder).
For example, you can try the following...
If you still want to use Perfmatters, I also recommend you to check this 2h interview with Brian, the guy behind Perfmatters as he will walk you through every single feature and option on the plugin...
- Implement responsive images - Leveraging the power of Elementor responsive mode, you can set different images optimized for desktop, tablets, and mobile instead of having just one image (mostly optimized for desktop devices) loading for mobile devices as well.
- Disable eicons (Elementor native icon set) and set up your own custom icon set
- Disable Google Fonts and download and host the fonts locally
- Disable Font Awesome
- Optimize CSS delivery - For this my go-to plugins of choice are either https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/get-perfmatters-wordpress-plugin-always-updated.1332382/ (Thanks to @RoiBox ) or https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/get-wp-shifty-nulled-perfmatters-alternative.1420171/
- If you´re not sure what you´re doing, I highly recommend you try WPShifty as it allows you to see a preview of the impact of the changes and see if it breaks anything in the frontend before saving/rolling those changes to the live site - This feature is currently under development on Perfmatters.
- Activate Elementor Experiments
- Build your header and footer OUTSIDE Elementor
- Add Font-Display: Swap - Head to Elementor > Settings > Google Fonts Load, then choose the “Swap” method.
- Design-wise, keep the number of used widgets and columns to a minimum
- Don´t go overboard with Elementor addons
- And if you are going to use Elementor addons, make sure to disable any modules you´re not going to be using
- Make sure to use the Hello theme or another lightweight theme alongside Elementor
- GeneratePress, Astra, and OceanWP would be my top choice
- Keep the mobile version of your site as light as possible.
This only helps with recurrent visitors.
