Fake news site - Profitable?

Is this niche good enough to open a site and fill it with fake news, in between the real news?
Not planning on SEO of any sort, just direct traffic by social spamming

Yeah, it's profitable. Don't know how long social traffic will be good now that Facebook is cracking down on it.
 
Well, my country is considered to be the source of it all. I can confirm some people banked hard prior to the elections in the USA, and I'm talking multiple 6-figure ad-sense earnings in the span of less than a year. All of their accounts got banned later on, even though they managed to receive the money.

You can definitely try but beware Facebook and Google are getting more and more strict on this topic and you might want to consider some other advertising/monetization methods.

I know a couple of guys in your country that were killing it with fake news on FB for some time... loved to see how successful they were.
 
From my understanding, it's quite profitable but more in the sense of making viral campaigns or heck, if you're really good at it you can be hired by organizations to push their agenda - people out there would be billing to pay a lot of money for a person with such a skill.

With all the drama (U.S Elections, Facebook, European Elections, manipulation and so forth) expect it to become a lot tougher as the industry is taking a hit.

Here's a bit more detailed look, if you're interested. What's funny to me is that most of them don't even know basic English yet managed to amass such earnings.

What is a viral campaign exactly?

Also - I would love to know the technicality of such a website. How does it look? Like do you just scrape lots of true stories from the news sites and just as a headline is your fake news story? Or some other configuration? Is there a good news theme recommended for this?

Please someone that is experienced with this please respond. Thanks!!
 
instead of fake news why not go for satire news site like TheOnion did? There are several sites using that model.

I recently saw this and i am planning to start something like that as my pet project :D
