As most of you know facebook is going to change their policy on 1 January 2015.

Advertisers, if rode it correctly. will have now the chance to use pictures from fb users to target their customer audience.

I decided to delete all my pictures and to stick only with their advertisement platform. But my guess is that they will loose allot of fb users next year due to this change. Some of my friends are now, as we speak, deleting their pictures.

What are your toughts?

The vast majority of people aren't going to give a f*ck about it. They already give out so much info about themselves, and want to continue to be social with their friends.

I'm sure this won't make people stop using Facebook.

That is true. But you have a small percentage of people who care and they have only fb to be connected with their family overseas and to see how they are doing. I am one of them.

Is that really true? The sad thing is that people will just let this be done to them without caring because they are already too addicted to it. lol

Even their parents failed to get them off from Facebook. Now only Facebook can do something.. Facebook has really ruined a lot of businesses and lives.

There is a whole bunch of other things that are "worse" that people have been able to do with FB pictures for years, and no one actually cared. Thats why I don't think their is going to be an uproar other than the few borderline paranoid people that still kept a facebook.

FB has been collecting data for so long now, and people are willingly giving them all the data they ask for so clearly they aren't the least afraid of what could be done with it. Those that don't like it will leave but that's what, probably a maximum of 5% total? If that.

I've been seeing a few people deleting their accounts so far but idk if its just the fact that bookmarked thousands of profiles and normal or they don't like this new policy.

I saw a little drop in the amount of 'frends' I have on FB(do not know if they deleted their account or delete me from their frend list). Couple of days ago there was I viral video on fb (non english video) explaining the new policy briefly.

Just to make sure that in case it causes many persons to delete their accounts, ill probably be spending more time scrapping images from Facebook. At first I thought they were blocking me after I visited their profile but FB claims that one cannot see who visited their profile, although I'm not sure if that is true or not.

Source?

IMO, this change won't make people run to twitter or any other social network.

There is so much information you can gather for marketing from facebook, even if its not direct marketing on FB.

You may face a civil suit if the person cares enough and has the money to, but if they are from another country your totally safe.

THe only article I could find about this was a Mashables article, although there were several other articles in the SERPs that claim that this is a false rumour (some articles were even posted as early as 2009)

However, in Facebook's TOS under the "About Advertisements and Other Commercial Content Served or Enhanced by Facebook" section, they state that:
You give us permission to use your name, profile picture, content, and information in connection with commercial, sponsored, or related content (such as a brand you like) served or enhanced by us. This means, for example, that you permit a business or other entity to pay us to display your name and/or profile picture with your content or information, without any compensation to you. If you have selected a specific audience for your content or information, we will respect your choice when we use it.

Although you may have seen these ads before. These are the ads where your name and profile image are displayed in advertisements such as "John Doe likes McDonalds" or "Jane Doe likes Starbucks".
