How sad, that was my favorite browser... Whats there left now that is fast, secure and doesn't leak any info to mega corporations? Lynx?

I personally use firefox, but I'm not sure whether they leak information or not.

I use it too for specific tasks, but for my day to day usage its too slow.

I think FB is going too far. Will see when they fall how hard this will hurt.

Interesting info, great post and thx given for the heads up

First a billion on instagram (Which I still feel is a stupid price) and now this. Are they trying to become like Google and acquire everything?

Facebook are going a little bit crazy now. They seem to be taking over the internet!
Next thing they'll be creating a search engine.

NO! not my favorite browser! I've used Opera for years precisely because it was fast, non-aligned, not bloatware relative to the other software, and not sending browser data home to Big Daddy. If I needed a specific plugin or special function (including social media) out of a browser I would jump on Firefox (preferably a portable app version), then promptly jump off. Better back up your pre-FB versions of Opera, before the tentacles of Big Corporate swoops in.

This syndrome reminds one of the decline of alternative cable channels, that in past years built a specific audience through delivering real niche or classic content and service, without commercials. Then they got sold to a conglomerate (Viacom, Disney, Time Warner, NBC-U, AMC networks, etc), and now suddenly there's little niche content, tons of commercials, and tons of crap on them (reality shows, reruns of network shows, recent movies, etc.). They become simply brand extensions of the the same old major network crud, divested of independence. We are about to see the same nonsense in the digital realm with takeovers like these.

Facebook seems to be setting themselves for another anti-trust lawsuit. Some lawyers are looking to sue them for the facebook credits. http://stopfacebookcredits.com/ Facebook also has a up to $15 Billion class action lawsuit against them in California for violating the wiretapping act. As well as the lawsuit for misleading investors during the IPO.

FB is going to tank in price before the end of the summer.

I think they know that Facebook's days are counted and trying to buy some good stuff to expand the business. Pretty logical on their side. However, just like Google they don't realize that Facebook is no longer the 'good guy' in the minds of many. Rather, 'Facebook' is an anti-brand to any product they introduce.

They are spending and wasting the money they made via listing Facebook stock. They are seriously following the Google Pattern.

Zuckerberg is a complete idiot when it comes to acquisitions. When your looking to expand your business you buy companies with a proven track record and a good annual return.

:(

I 've been using Opera fanatically since forever. Sad to have to change once it starts leaking data.

i am opera fan also.. using opera for years, and using opera now. lol

I think im going to start using internet explorer v1 or aol 1.0 to protest FB, its time to go retro

I use FF, IE and Comodo Dragon with Incognito. As far as FB goes they seem lately like chicken without head. Not sure how this initial pump and dump IPO, reputation damage and stepping into big player pool will work out. They will/are forced with new board members and deep pocket investors to get their ducks in a row which could mean few things like more anti trust issues, more monopolization, more distancing from user base, screwed up and neglected user experience, privacy issues due to "more" personal data being sold under revenue pressure and other issues. They certainly are under lots of pressure and sometimes people/companies make bad choices, I am not qualified to know nor do I have a crystal ball to find out where this is going but I hope that innovation and future won't suffer under earnings pressure.
