Facebook Groups Private vs Public

Hi everyone!

I'm looking for some advice regarding Facebook Groups...

Which one will grow better ? Public group or private ?

I always preferred private groups, but with last update, Facebook is showing "suggested public groups" so I think public groups have a lot more potential now

I would always choose private because, a lot of people don't know that but you can build up email list with fb groups ( before they join ask them a question - give your email id for free report or ebook , and as per my groups 70% of people will enter that)
 
Totally depends on your niche. The biggest plus of having a public group is, there's an option to share the posts. So if a post goes viral, you'll be growing exponentially.
 
Search doesn't work for private groups for obvious reasons so you won't be found with a long tail that exactly matches a post in your group if you set it up to private.
Advantages of private as have been already mentioned: you have a halo of mystery and exclusiveness that can be (somehow) profited from.
Most of my groups are public and I see a steadier growth compared to private ones of similar topic.
 
Both groups have potential as long as your content and audience are cool.

Can they revert this update ?
I can still edit my group privacy and I can't decide :(
 
Public group will be good to post, but member :(
 
Public groups:
  • get more traffic
  • show up in search results
Private groups:
  • often are less likely to be shut down. You can post blackhat content inside and if it's not detected automatically, it stays until someone reports it

according me public groups work bettere than private. If any of your content rank you will rank accordingly too.
 
What all happened in the "latest update"?? any thread about that? My group has always been public, mainly because like someone already suggested, it has the share feature and grows easier/quicker..
 
It's Good to start Public till you get good numbers of members and then switch to private
 
Both have their own value. IMO it really depends with the niche. But i personally see more growth with public. But far from specific targeted visitors..... least my experince
 
I like the idea of the public groups because this could be great traffic and leads driver

It depends. If you want to public, it appears on their wall and about private this is all about selected areas.
