I joined a couple of FB groups in the niche I was trying to promote.

I created a freebie.

I sent the leads to my landing page where they can download the freebie after they input their email.

Long story short I was attacked, called a scammer, some felt "scammed because they had to subscribe to my email list.", others felt I was taking advantage of people even though the ebook I was giving out had really good info and they didn't even read and these people just want everything for free. They just feel if they have to pay for anything then it must be a scam their logic is that there are Youtube videos and free info everywhere why buy LOL.. they dont realize that 99% of this info is crap and is there to mislead them.

I left all the groups.. what a waste of time.

FB is making it really hard for me to post links or PM anyone after sending maybe 100 PM in a day.

On the positive side I managed to collect 200 people to my list in 3 days.

Just wanted to share my experience with you all.

you could have prvented this with a simple disclaimer on the post

So you collected 200 e-mails, which was your goal, but your sensitive soul did not allow you to continue? Damn mate.

Never should have left those groups.

The noise you heard is part of the cost to collect those emails for your list.

Nothing is free in life or FB and minimal noise from a bunch of random people on social media so you can build your account base (list) is insignificant.

You are probably right. But I really got the impression that the people their just want everything for free and won't pay for anything. An hint of they have to pay of anything sends then running for the hills.

If one guy (or even 20 guys) was the cause for you to leave a bunch of profitable FB groups you are in the wrong industry.

Your ebook was a sales pitch if you were linking to the full one that was for sale... that is one way to make money in this industry.
 
If the FB group (or any other group of people) is of any decent size, there would be ALWAYS people like that, regardless of what you are doing. You can be giving them $1k free, and they will complain that have to pay taxes for that (just ask Oprah).
 
I'm going to take a minute and give you some legititmate advice from someone who has been working FB groups for 4 or 5 years now (you can see the thread I started back in the day about how I worked them way back).

First - you are almost always going to have people call you out. Ignore them. Do not respond to them. Do not allow them to derail you.

Second - post as often as FB will allow you in as many groups as you can post in. Ignore those that call you out again.

Third - create or buy a bunch of FB accounts and multiply your posting options. Ignore those that call you out again.

The name of the game is to get the money and if you are offering something of value and not scamming go for it and ignore those that call you out.

If I did not mention this above - IGNORE THOSE THAT CALL YOU OUT.

It has become extremely difficult to make money from Facebook Groups in recent times. You said you collected 100 leads, you should be thankful for that! Facebook has taken some strong steps to prevent spamming and to force people to buy there ads instead. Therefore it has become a cut throat kind of business now in Facebook Groups. The most important thing is to keep providing value in the groups and members in the group will gravitate to you.

Couldn't have said it better myself.

After reading @BrassTrackerBoats and seeing how many leads I got I thought he is right, can't let this get to me, so I rejoined the groups again. I already blocked these guys already so I won't have to put up with their BS anymore.

At this point I am considering what to do with the leads.

First and foremost, if you’re just promoting a landing page like that, expect that some of them would “attack” or calling you a “scammer”. In my own opinion, it’s better to share a landing page that are more on tutorials, tips, guides, etc., on a specific niche. Giving valuable information is much more essential nowadays. Once they saw it from you, they would likely gonna follow your content.

Better install a popunder banner plugin (if you’re using Wordpress) that your ad lets them go to your actual landing page that needs them to enter their name and email address, no matter what page of your website are they browsing. Just my two cents.

Unfortunately, that's part of the job and normal. This is business - you should keep such things aside.
There will always be someone who is unhappy and feeling scammed, don't take it personally.
Reddit has way more negativity than Facebook!
 
In general, you need to build your trust in a community to be appreciated. The same goes for Facebook, you came from nowhere (most probably) and start promoting your offers.

Think like they see that sh*t every day.

I'm in the same boat as you and I hate some FB groups but I try to understand their perspective too.

Try to connect with the community members, eventually give them something really free, like some long-ass content directly pasted on Facebook and they don't need to download or open any file.

Help them understand your quality and don't leave if you fail several times.

Heard that about reddit and this is why I tend to stay away from it as I know my marketing skills are not enough to handle these users lol

I started thinking about this actually the coming out of nowhere and yes you are absolutely right.

After evaulating my approach I realized what is missing here and it came to this:

Trust + Authority = $

I lacked both because I just come out of nowhere and promote offers, they don't know me or see me as someone who has authority.

I realized that building a blog or a site could really be key to build these two things.

Just my 2 cents on how I see things and for future marketers who wish to get started in FB groups marketing.
