Facebook declares war on spammers?

1.Create multiple or fake accounts on Facebook.
2.Sending unsolicited commercial email messages ( spam ) through the facebook network to facebook users.
3.Creating multiple groups for the sole purpose of furthering your spamming and scraping scheme.
4.Using personal profiles for commercial gain.
5.Stop using automated means such as scripts or scrapers without Facebook permission.

Facebook demands that you immediately cease and desist this activity.

They didn't say "delete your accounts." You could probably keep what you have, disable any automated processes that are still running, and just lay low for a while. Don't create anything new, and as this thing blows over gradually implement a scaled-back version of what you were doing that can fly under the radar.

Errr..Are you willing to fight a bear (or a robot) when you're just a humanbeing? Are you stupid enough to ignore a C&D, you'll be opting in for a big asswhooping of a large degree. Are you ready to pocket out what they demand or even through your lawyers negotiate a settlement?

Facebook don't care if you're not in the US. You're in the EU. They'll come for you unless you live in the UAE or any middle-eastern country and can give them the middle-finger any day and time. They'll do a default judgment and then they'll come for every penny they think you owe them. They'll happily make an example out of you - the more the better as that gets them publicity and scares the bejezus out of any spammer using FB's platform.

Facebook makes billions? They may be worth billions in equity, but they dont make close to that. Infact, they're barely profitable/lose money (depending on what set of numbers you want to believe).

The last numbers that leaked showed projected revenue of $300-$350 million. Their declared capital expenditures for that year were $200 million. Now, I'm not an accountant or anything, But I would say that makes FB a maximum of $150 million annual profit before taxes and without accounting for worker salaries, etc. For the year which I'm discussing (2008) FB's cashflow was posted at -$150 million. Yes, that means they lost $150 million. So, again, I'm pretty sure thats not "Making billions." Generally a C&D costs a company between $1500-$3000 just to get sent (lawyer/legal department fees/etc) and this is their CHEAPEST option.

Just because a company is large doesn't mean that it is profitable. Don't know if you've, ya know, turned on the news in the last year or not. Large businesses are failing and going bankrupt constantly. Yahoo still has yet to turn a profit. So really, before you go on your screed about how FB has eleventy bazillion dollars to throw at spammers and attempt to scare people you should try looking into finding out what the hell you're talking about.

Not only is it obvious that you decided to pull these numbers and most of the gist of your post straight out of your ass, but to then call the person making the initial posts, or others in the thread "small time spammers" and tell them they're fucked... That's a hell of a lot of confidence for someone who, at least in this instance, has absolutely no idea wtf they're talking about.

Congratulations on making yourself look like a total ass. Cheers  <- that's my friend the bannana. He's alllllllll over the internet. Did you know he makes a million-trillion-hundred dollars per week, all of which he uses to pwn social network spammers? Everyone look out for the dancing banana!

FB 2008 Stats:

Those projected numbers were before Facebook's advertisement platform really took off...That was in 2009, so that's the numbers you should use and focus on. 2010 is going to be even more extreme for FB as they grow, the advertisers pocket out more. You see the right hand side advertisement? BIG!

Upload a scanned version. I think this is only a ploy to scare away competition. Facebook bans accounts at even the slightst suspicion of spamming. They sent out a C AND D and didnt even ban the accounts? Smells fishy to me, at least.

That's EXACTLY what I was going to say when I saw the post this morning. Well said. OP has avoided the question of "Can you please scan the letter and post it?" multiple times throughout the thread.

did it ever occur to you this person doesn't want to link their personal life to a online forum?

They can cover up certain parts of course, anything personal, even A small box of the letter, there are many intrigued and trusted members that may benefit from seeing this.

You can find a very similar thread with a nearly identical OP
here (started yesterday like this one):
h**p://www.exceem.co.uk/forums/how-get-greens/53725-facebook-spam-could-no-more.html
The OP uses the same words "This is just briefly from me:"
and then it continues with exactly the same phrases.
If Facebook thinks someone is violating their TOS then they
would ban / delete the account instantly. Common practise verywhere.

Am using lot of freelancers to promote my pages. Am not sure who is going to get this letter :)

Once again, you are ignoring several requests to scan the letter. You can cover your personal information. No one is going to believe you until we see it.

I guess shes just trying to panic people here so the rest of the cake is bigger for her... Dunno - just guessing...

After reading a few more posts in this whole thread I find this whole thing weird. Are you sure it's real? I smell something fishy going on. It could be that someone clever is trying to scare you away and they've found your real address through domain whois or something similar. It could be that your just trying to scare people out of the game so that there's less competition, who knows. Either way if you scanned the actual letter it would allow us to analyze if its real or if its fake and don't try covering yourself with the "i don t want scan letter because have 3 pages and too much my private information" bullshit because you can always cover this up.

Where are you actually from? Where are you located? English isn't your first language is it?

As fake as I think this is, I'm not taking the risk until someone verifies that it is definitely fake. Anybody?

The only source we have as to whether its fake or not is:

> If we see the letter.

> or if you feel you are a good friend of the OP and trust they are serious.

I myself believe they send out these warnings to try get people to post that they got one all over the internet, making people weary, trying to reduce the amount instead of just disabling accounts.

I personally think the letter might be real but its weird no one else on this forum has got one.. I mean we all must spam facebook a lil lol.

Either way this has made me start using proxies at the registration of my profiles. Just to be on the safe side :)

This is news to me. I'd def lay off facebook for a while. I don't know that you have to delete your accounts at this point but certainly I would stop and focus on something other than FB until more info is released. I can't see them trying to prosecute you overseas but better safe than sorry.
