just stop every marketing activity at facebook.

In your shoes I would stop for the moment. Unless I know a very good way to protect me and to see if that is the beginning of something bigger or only one unlucky hit.
I dont think that money is worth to get penalized. Otherwise drugdealing would be a good idea too. Its like the health. You can play with your health and risk it to gain something but at the end the health is the most important thing.
But I think no one can decide for you. Think about the two sides and decide for yourself. How much money is the risk worth...

i think this heeds as a warning for all of us to be super careful and/or limit any facebook activity at the moment until the heat cools down...don't want to risk being in a lawsuit or in the slammer

look if you live in a small country they won't give a fck about u so don't worry, but if you live in USA you guys have to stop facebook spamming because they can find you so easy and i don't think anyone of us want to have trouble with a company like facebook and with the international law. Sites have been sending out C&D orders since the beginnings of spam. I've recieved at least 5 in the last 8 years. I saw it was mentioned before but sending traffic to domains you've bought yourself, or at the very, very least havent registration via proxy, is a bad plan. Most of mine have been sent to sponsors. Generally though, especially if you look at the types of activities they listed, most of what they send you a C&D for is not illegal. Therefore if they can even take any legal actions (which they rarely can/do) it is only civil, not criminal. Generally in my experience sponsors legal departments have just handled responses for me and usually just had me switch to a different affiliate ID. I wouldn't sweat it. Switch up your domains, try some new stuff.

Myspace's a big comany, too. I've had 3 C&D's from them. It's something very seldom that they can even actually take legal action for (when you look at the details its usually only someone who has been using stolen accounts, defrauding people or violating canspam [which has generally been rejected by courts to include "in-service email systems"]). I would agree it shouldn't be ignored. But that doesn't mean you have to abandon what you're doing. Just do it differently.

Only civil, ok, but a civil lawsuit can mean a lot of money to be paid when the case is lost... Can ruin someone. So I would say thats not much better than legal actions...

It's all because of the methods that are being shared at Black Hat World. They get too much publicity to various people throughout the world, some are clever and use the methods wisely whereas most of them are stupid ignorant noobs that kill these methods and fuck things up for the rest of us. This is one of the reasons why once someone finds something profitable, they won't share it with you. To all the fuckers that ruin it for us, GTFO.

Most definitely. At least generally the ones whoring the method out are the ones that deal with the most legal action due to cutting corners (stolen accounts, etc) or using a machete when they should be using a scalpel. Though even more so that problem comes from cheap and easy software, developed poorly as a product instead of a real advertising tool (if anyone has ever had good, custom software that statement will make perfect sense to you). With programs like those mis-use is almost coded into their very essence.

Indeed. Places that churn out poor quality software ruin every method they touch. If those people knew how to produce good software and had any semblance of marketing ability, they would keep these methods to themselves and earn 100x more than they make from selling them.

Off-topic here but have y ou guys seen that new fb exploit where you can force add someone? For example if I wanted to add id "9", I could force him to accept, and i'd be on his friends list without him even knowing? Wonder if that has anything to do with it? My accounts recently been spammed by random accounts, all I see is "You have accepted 'xxx" and its like wtf? No I didn't..

Personally I've got 200+ accounts on FB, all made on a proxy and all bots run via a proxy. I also hide my info on domains.. no c&d "yet". Any chance you could scan the letter?

Facebook makes billions? They may be worth billions in equity, but they dont make close to that. Infact, they're barely profitable/lose money (depending on what set of numbers you want to believe).

The last numbers that leaked showed projected revenue of $300-$350 million. Their declared capital expenditures for that year were $200 million. Now, I'm not an accountant or anything, But I would say that makes FB a maximum of $150 million annual profit before taxes and without accounting for worker salaries, etc. For the year which I'm discussing (2008) FB's cashflow was posted at -$150 million. Yes, that means they lost $150 million. So, again, I'm pretty sure thats not "Making billions." Generally a C&D costs a company between $1500-$3000 just to get sent (lawyer/legal department fees/etc) and this is their CHEAPEST option.

Just because a company is large doesn't mean that it is profitable. Don't know if you've, ya know, turned on the news in the last year or not. Large businesses are failing and going bankrupt constantly. Yahoo still has yet to turn a profit. So really, before you go on your screed about how FB has eleventy bazillion dollars to throw at spammers and attempt to scare people you should try looking into finding out what the hell you're talking about.

Not only is it obvious that you decided to pull these numbers and most of the gist of your post straight out of your ass, but to then call the person making the initial posts, or others in the thread "small time spammers" and tell them they're fucked... That's a hell of a lot of confidence for someone who, at least in this instance, has absolutely no idea wtf they're talking about.
