I've done it without a ban by either one but it was impossible for me to get the ad cost down enough to make it profitable.

Why would you get banned though? as long as your ad is a approved fb wouldn't ban you.
AdSense maybe but if you've got a mix of traffic sources I can't see you getting banned there either.

I've tried fb adverts with my local service business and I get not a bad conversation rate. But that's all completely different. They are boosted ads and I send them to my page. For about £5 (about $7) I was reaching 10,000 but that wasn't clicks to a website.
What kinda results where you getting mate? I mean roughly, how much was a 1000 website clicks costing you?

Sending fb traffic to your page you mean? The problem with pages and group is they are full of people from 3rd world country and fake profiles.

you won't be banned, but probably you won't make much with adsense
it should work, but cannot comment on what rates or profits you can get as it doesn't work with every site, also you have to know how to understand analytics and optimize site accordingly

I can confirm this, already tried the same thing, but yes you'll not be profitable in most cases.
Well, for pages, if you're an admin you can block off some countries form accessing/finding the page.

Not a very good idea for adsense, better target hundreds of low volume longtails and get a good stream of traffic for adsense.

In the sense of acquiring targetted fans to your page.
Build unlimited amount of realistic accounts, join related groups and add friends from those groups. Add friends from related pages as well. Target commenters and likers.
You don't even need PVA, just take your time with the accounts; work modestly. The more account you have, the better.
Also, try to target different friends (regarding interest) with each account.
Share to those groups with new content frequently. Focus mostly on photos and videos uploaded to your page.
To get money from Adsense, you need a high volume of targeted traffic.
To get targeted traffic from Facebook, you need new (partially trending or exclusive) content shared to your page.
Also, don't be afraid to boost your post from time to time. It's very helpful, regarding reach and engagement.
Consider building more than one page; think about user interest and relativity.
