F*ck Amazon...

Next time choose product where you can markup the price by at least 3x so these type of costs can be adjusted from your profit margin only.

Old news...
You will see this as soon as you do some research on Amazon FBA...
Nothing new
Nothing unexpected
Take this into account when calculating your profit margins
Entrepreneurs with physical stores have to deal with theft...
This is just the 'internet equivalent'... Some people are dishonest... And Amazon takes the easy way out and pushes it onto the sellers...
You can dispute the decision with Amazon or just take the hit and move on...

Yeap its normal and part of eCommerce. Even if it wasn't amazon but your own website. People will write bad reviews and try to destroy your reputation that will make you lose sales. Either you gave them money back or you have to live with those feedback :) Its part of the game

If this happened through FBA then Amazon will reimburse you 45 days after the "not received" claim was filed.

This is why customers "love" Amazon.

A customer orders 16 units and claims he/she doesn't receive them. Amazon gives her full refund. Customer thinks Amazon is generous.

Reality is that us 'the seller' ends up paying the refund, not Amazon. Plus, they charge us shipping and a refund administration fee.

Amazon have failed in fulfilment (or the customer lied), which they charged us 'the seller' for, and then they charge us 'the seller' an additional fee for taking money back from me to give to customer.

Fuck you JEFF BEZOSOS
You my good man have been a victim of SE (social engineering) Refund blackhat method. The real crooks in all of this is Amazon, Because They've just pushed the liability on to your shoulders. As if you're not spending enough trying to advertise their damn products. Sucks i know, buck up, learn from this and move on

I could tell stories over stories from my time as an Amazon seller. Any responsibility will be pushed onto you, as a seller. It seriously does not matter whose fault it is, in the end, you always have to pay for it. Sometimes you can get lucky after having them on the phone. But in general, everything that involves the customer is a totally different category for Amazon.

In short: Amazon is the boss, you are nothing.

Amazon did something similar to me. A customer of mine bought a drone. 3 months later, they said the drone is damaged that they want to return it. The return policy am aware of is 30 days. While I was still doing the back and fort the the customer. Amazon refunded them. I lost $350.

I was very angry. Closed my store and moved to Ebay. Cannot stand amazon. It is good for buyers not for sellers

All these big companies just do what is in their best interest and they are not considerate.

Quite a few years late on this one, Amazon have been doing stuff like this for a very long time. People are suprised that Amazon would do this, I'm suprised that people think Amazon don't.

A few years ago a similar thing happened to me, I disputed it with Amazon, they credited me the transaction fees they deducted and how much they estimated it would cost for the products to be replaced.
You should consider leaving Amazon.
There are lot's of other affiliate programs out there.

Same happened to me many times due to which I left seller account

It sucks but...
I am not surprised.
You should have a budget prepared for such situations.
It's called risk management.
