Exteremly Aggresive Link Building - How long do you think this dance will last?

My site is still fairly new (less than a year old). Back in May I had a blast of forum profiles done on the site (yeah I'm an idiot) I was then sandboxed, or slapped or whatever you want to call it for two months. I reappeared about where I was before the blast. During that time I was doing some linkbuilding but not a whole lot mostly working on a google places ranking (its a local business). Right after reappearing or perhaps slightly before I bought an 11 year old domain off of godaddy with no PR and 301 redirected it to my money site (I didn't purchase the privacy, not sure if that matters). I then proceeded over the course of September absolutely blast the site with High PR links including the following:

1. 4 High PR homepage networks ranging in price of $50-100/month
2. Article Submission package blast (Gold package from the BHW guy for those who know)
3. 1-2 article a day directory and submission blast and senuke for the last 2 weeks.
4. HIgh PR article submission network constituting of about 140 spun articles (20 seed articles) over 50 sites.
5. 2 private network article blast of about 60 articles (from 2 seed articles) over about 50 sites


About 10-12 days ago I hit number 1 for one of my target keywords (above Google Places wheee!) lasted a few days and then 3 days ago I disappeared. It is just my homepage and all other inner pages show up right around where they should. I'm pretty confident it is not a penalty.

So my questions are two fold.

1. How long do you think the dance will last?
2. Like Icarus did fly to close to the sun? Was this stupidly way to aggressive and should I worry about a penalty coming?

I think it's essential to know: are you varying your link text at all here?

I would say over 90% of the anchors texts are two similar keywords

You seem to be doing the right thing, building quality backlinks to your site instead of blasting with thousands of spammy profile links. I think it's normal to fluctuate at this stage as G is gradually indexing your backlinks. I wouldn't worry now, and you should definitely land on the first page.

Unfortunately I`ve experienced a very similar thing and it`s about two months my website is nowhere to be find most of the time...sometimes it appears as a 82th or something and then it disappears for a week or two...then 82th again...

Whats the highest the website has ever been ranked?

Definitely need to have some varying anchor text. Keep it looking natural.

Could be weeks or several months but keep backlinking the same way you have been as a dance is a good thing.

No, you got a nice tan and Google is jealous.

You'll not be penalized... keep on keeping on but vary your anchor text some.

I know a buddy who had a website project that wasn't too important to him. It was maybe six months old.

He had done extremely little backlinking for his site, and wanted to see what a major blast would do.

So, using the exact same anchor text, he ordered like a 20,000 xrumer blast for links over to his site via fiverr. They were ugly links...

His site disappeared in Google for about six months, but it then suddenly reappeared in the index stronger than ever, with Google Sitelinks for the anchor text he had blasted!

I think it's difficult to harm a site with links.

Maybe if the site is brand new...but otherwise, the site might dance for some time, but it will likely NOT be permanently harmed by such links.
