Why is it obsolete? I have 301'd old domains as part of a rebranding, and the companies maintained their former rank without even one manual link to the new domain.

Obviously it has limited uses in the context as they're discussed here, but I don't know anybody who builds a new site and hopes to rank solely on 301s.

You are correct, 301 works as intended for an established branded site. But just buying expired domains for sake of linking them to your new sites for "linkjuice" is what isn't working. I'm fairly sure that Google AI has figured out the difference. (I tried it with 50 or so domains)

I've built sites on expired domains and had them rank decently before I started any form of SEO, so something is still working here. Obviously it's never going to give a guaranteed #1 ranking on a day-old site, but it does give a measurable boost until the more traditional SEO kicks in.

Long story short, use it as one of urbpbn domains and send links from it. Its the safest way

Google has some counterfeit I cant cant to 301 domain redirect. Some times it works, sometimes not. I get it 50/50 and its totally random. Weak website gives u amazing boost, and monstrous website doesn't help at all

Certainly not this is extremely old information however the key to PBN working is keeping the facts out of the public domain.

Suggest trial and error really.

If the expired domain is currently getting traffic, then sure, once you redirect it to your site, you will get that traffic.
