On expireddomains there are only expired domains or dropped domains or deleted domains (no longer active). If you want domains that aren't expired you should look at domain auctions such as namejet, godaddy, sedo etc.

Yes, this explains everything you need to check. Some domains have algorithmic penalties which are difficult to identify. If you're a complete beginner, then it's better to buy an expired domain instead of experimenting.

Maybe that worth to start with brand new domain name? In this case you will be sure that domain name does not have any bad history.
