Expired Domain Question

I have an expired domain that was part of a Government project that they shut down.

It is a country-specific domain and has good backlinks from the likes of BBC, CNN, Forbes, Wikipedia, and any other major news publisher in the world. It is has a DA of 63 on Ahrefs.

All are pointing to the root domain and very few to the internal pages. I would say 98% to root domain the rest to internal pages.

90% are do-follow from the big websites.

My question is, how best can I utilize this expired domain?

I'm now waiting for my government to shut down projects. Does that make me a bad citizen? :smirk:

Well buddy, don't waste this domain by creating PBNs or 301 redirects. Build a proper website, preferably in a niche that's similar to the original project. For example, if it was an education related project, try building something around that subject. It's easier said than done, but you've got to do some research and thinking. Good luck!
 
What would you do if government decides to get back and re-open closed project?
Would that cause any issues to you.
I would take that into account.
 
It's quite risky to deal with a domain like that, but I would still proceed. Register it under some fake name and some other non-popular registrar. Make a website in the same niche as the domain was in, and then you can either turn it into a money site or sell the links from it. That's what I would do

Where do you find this kind of domains?
What kind of filters you use?
I feel you better start your own websites because of good backlink profile
You can rank many keywords quick
 
Unless this is a premium, short, generic domain with a name that can be interpreted in numerous ways, don't think setting up an authority site or a site is a good idea.

Worst scenario: Churn and burn
Worthwhile: Link asset or 301 to a relevant sub-page of an existing site in case you have one.

Of course, it is better to spend more time doing everything efficiently and for a long time.
 
Create content website on it, specially like churn burn keywords/ evets or news type site for quick money.
I am sure that site can rank on any of keyword easily.
Currently i have seen such project in india. they are ranking on approximate all trending keywords.
