I recently purchased an expired domain with quite a few RD and solid metrics. The plan is to use it as a money site. It's in a somewhat relatable overarching niche to what I'd like the website to be about. However, the domain name is branded and has nothing to do with the keyword or niche whatsoever.

So my conundrum is choosing if I should make the homepage about my 'main money keyword' or just make the keyword a post. It seems I have two options.

    1. Put the main keyword in the homepage article. This causes a couple of issues. My keyword is not in the URL. This could reduce my CTR and possibly make ranking slightly more difficult.

    2. Do a blog format and make my main keyword an inner page. This way I get the keyword in the URL but I don't get near as much power as I would being on the homepage.

To note, my keyword is pretty low competition. The #1 and #2 sites are an EMD with around 20 do-follow RD. All of them being garbage directories or inner pages with dozens if not hundreds of external links.

I know I'm likely overthinking this but I'd still like some opinions to put my mind at ease.

Just create a blog and post the article with your link. If it's supposed to work (for hundreds of other factors out of your control), it'll work either way.

If it doesn't work, it wouldn't have worked anyway.

    Why not go for Hybrid?

Put a blog post with your main KW, and also make the home page about this (and a few other keywords, of course). Try and get both to focus on your money KW. Whichever gets better results - go deeper down that path.

You are over thinking it for sure. I've had sites succeed with a homepage, and others where a post gets a lot more attention than the homepage. It all depends on your end game - do you want just that page to succeed, or do you have a bigger plan for the website.

I believe this was already explained via Skype. Bottom line, go with inner pages. If your interlinking is fine, then the juice will flow through the entire site. Plus, if you eventually want to make the site bigger, then it's better to start with inner page. Also, you really don't want your full keyword in URL. It looks like crap + Penguin hates it.

Thanks for all the help and advice everyone. I've decided to make the main keyword an inner page and make the homepage a static page somewhat relating to all keywords.

    Cheers!

I would rather go with a fresh domain, even if it's an auction domain with a lot of pre-existing backlinks, you might run into a lot of trouble, of course you can feel to try, maybe you'll get lucky, I would rather not take a risk and start with a domain that has 0 history and 0 backlinks.

Both will work. Since the KW difficulty is low, then you can go with inner page. You still have the option of targeting other low-comp. KWs as well.
    Best of luck.
