Experimenting with Shopify..

I had been reading a lot of success stories about shopify and wanted to try it my self. Past 2-3 days I have been trying different free themes and settings, setting some minimal products to get a look and feel before adding more, reading threads and making necessary updates, etc.

Can you guys please provide your expert opinions for anything which is still lacking, before I start with any ads or any kind of promotions. Also can you advice what should be given as a contact us page (in case product takes longer and they want to contact me).

Moreover, is there a way customer can see the shipping time at checkout ? I have added a Shipping page to mention that it takes 2-4 weeks for shipping, but customer may not read it and expect a fast delivery.

Also can you please suggest some free apps for such a store. BTW, I am using oberlo.

I worked with shopify some time ago, I might be able to give you a hint about the shipping thing (no step-by-step though).
For adding something to your theme you have to go in the backend -> under "SALES CHANNELS" click on your store -> at the theme on the top right click "..." and "Edit HTML/CSS" -> then you have to find the liquid template which is used for the cart/checkout and in this you could add something like "<p>Shipping might take up to 2-3 weeks. <a href="https://dealgrabz.myshopify.com/pages/shipping">More Information</a></p>" on the appropriate position.

Don't know your theme so I don't know which exactly is the file you'll need to alter.

Maybe this was obvious to you anyways but if not I hope I could get you in the right direction on this one :)

I think you maybe should pay for a domain cause .shopify[dot]com isnt reall trustfully. Also maybe invest in ads to get you first sales.

By the way in my opinion you didnt really choose a specific niche. I myself did the mistake to open a shop a quite wile ago and didnt really choose a good niche.
Maybe concentrate you on one specific niche :)

I am with this guy you need to establish some credibility with a domain, personally not a fan of that theme. add some icon for creditcards accepted making you look more official and trust worthy. and the other half of the problem the most important part is your advertising.
 
Thanks guys .. I had a domain www.dealgrabz.com, so i have pointed it to my shopify store. I guess the theme name is bliss. I tried with 3-4 free themes and finally settled on this because products & their pictures appear decent & proportionate in this, unlike others. Can you suggest another working free theme better suited ? Also how can I add those credit card icons ? is it a theme feature or needs to be done separately - I am not much of a coder. Coming to specific Niche - since I was just concentrating on idea of 'Deals', I thought I'll show different products under 'Jewellery' (So I can at least target girls only). Should I just go with something very specific ? BTW, I all 4 items should fall under 'Necklace' niche I guess. Also mixing free and chargeable items is a good idea or not ? Please let me know the best place to promote such site. Is it fb ads only ?
 
Unfortunatly I don't really know any Shopify themes to suggest to you.
By adding credit card icons I guess you mean just adding them as images somewhere? If you want to add anything that's not managable by the theme options and isn't in a CMS page you'll have to go the way I described in my first reply.

Thanks, will message you for more information. Do you have any working ads samples. Or should I work more on my site before starting promotion. I am not sure what else can be done to make it look more authentic and catchy. I can't buy a paid theme as of now.
 
Learning by doing dude, you can't ask for everything. Take a look at search box and try to find a answer your self.
By the way I would say there are many methods that works, but you should find the best for you.
 
Hi Guys .. Please help me understand 2 things. I researched a lot but did not find any decent answer.

1. Which payment gateway is best suited for such a site for a non US country & how to set it up.

2. Will the address / phone I gave while opening the shopify store, show up on checkout page. Its random info and I do not want customer to view it.
Also since i wanna target US customers, I wanted to get them a feeling that its a US based site.
 
1. Im not us resident and im using stripe and paypal for my payments.
2. It will show but you can edit it in the setting.

Few tips base on my exp.
1. If you plan to use fb ads to promote traffic prepare to fail a lot on your campaign.
2. Dont be discourage with ads cost.
3. The most important one is find a realy realy good item to promote so you wont waste money on ads.

Theres a few more tips but im lousy to type and im on my phone :)

Hey .. I may have missed to find it while searching .. but just noticed that if I am ordering products for Free and shipping based on weight or rate, customers can order more products for same shipping. This considerably reduces my profit or even leads to loss. Please let me know what's the way out ?

How did you manage to register for stripe as non US? I'm struggling with it and the paypal doesnt seem to be a good choice
 
I did not .. I am using paypal and applied for 2checkout. btw my site is still not live
 
Hi .. I have made a few updates .. can u guys take a look and let me know if my site looks ready to run ads?
 
Try it out, but you need to target the right people! But personaly I think you're not in the right niche cause there so many jewelry stores out there
 
Thanks mate .. anyways I learned something .. its just that i am tight on budget and don't wanna start spending till evrythng looks right.. any other insights, suggestion?
 
In my opinion all those free ecommerce themes are not that well, cause they dont look really trustfully. You should maybe create your own or hire a freelancer to get a good looking theme who is converting as well. Wish you anyway the best of luck
