So I got back to campus from home over the weekend. Grabbed my backpack and some of my girlfriend's stuff and shuttled it to her room. Stopped by Starbucks and grabbed a holiday Gingerbread cake (which is disgusting by the way) and a venti Peppermint Mocha frappuccino, and headed up to my dorm room.

Unlocked my door, pushed it open, and died. The girlfriend's room was 68 degrees (consequently her roommate was still walking around in her underwear), the hallway was around 71, and my room... 97 degrees. Yeah.

How? I don't know. All I know is that maintenance is gone til Tuesday. I have one of those window fans on full blast, and I stole the oscillating fan from the laundry room to use, but still holy shit. My air freshener cones completely melted off the plastic stick (cheap Glade pieces of crap), and my 24-pack of unopened water bottles are all condensated and nasty-looking.

My aluminum bookshelf sitting right under the vent is seriously burning to the touch. And here I am, still marketing. And to believe that I thought I would get some work done. Fuck me...

you computer produces heat, turn it off when you are not using it. really helps.

fuck me, in my day it was a 6 pack and a twinkie...

I've got a Macbook that has a fan running at 2,471rpm at the moment, and the HD, CPU, and battery are all showing under 90 degrees, so that's definitely not a contributor :) my Frappuccino melted quite a bit faster than normal. Nasty.

And our library is a nice 20 minute walk. Nice big campus. Plus it closes at 11:00pm on Sunday night.

When I read the title of this thread I thought it would be attributed to CL being down for logins for so long. :D

I'd get several small towels, get them wet, put them in the freezer/fridge, and rotate putting them around your neck as ya work.

I see you're from NC. Just be glad you don't go to ECU because some of the boy's dorms didn't have a/c in them until about 2 years ago. It got nasty in there with the NC heat.

Agreed. I actually live in the only dorm on this campus that has air conditioning at the moment. And since it's 39 outside, and the windows are locked shut except for the window fans (fags), they expect the air conditioning to help out greatly. Fail on their part.

What campus is that? The only one I can think of that would be as raggedy as ECU would be App St.

Woke up, still eighty-seven. Wishing I was dead and feeling very dehydrated. The maintenance people should be out here to fix it this morning or someone's gonna die.

Jesus christ you poor poor dear. It saddens my heart to think of the hardships you're enduring away at college in your warm dorm room! I've started a prayer circle in my local community for you, and we're going to be taking a collection this sunday at church to buy you a bag of ice cubes to sit on.

We had a collection that we were going to use to buy food for starving children in Uganda, but with the recent events of your malfunctioning air conditioner - I think the kids can wait.

After all, we can't have you sitting in HELL now can we?

I thought the sarcasm was clearly implied.

Or perhaps you may simply be too close to heat exhaustion and dehydration from the blistering conditions you're being forced to live in - that you were unable to pickup on the tone.

Someone get this guy some Acai Berry NOW. It's the only thing that can save his life.

It only took two days :( and now my heat is slowly decreasing at a rate of 2 degrees per hour. It's at 92 right now. I've gotta tell you, this was quite the experience.
