Ever published a real guest post?

Hi guys,
Have you ever published a real guest post? I mean one which you didn't have to pay but got the opportunity because your article was awesome?

I recently tried to do some guest posting by finding sites using Google search operators, a method mentioned in many blog posts, but all of them were paid. I could just ask them "how much for the guest post" instead of using "I have an awesome piece of content...." like email templates. And most of them had tons of link but no organic traffic (from ahrefs data) so definitely those are made for this purpose. I even stumbled on a mom blog which offered guest posts to 413 pages of sites! - most of them hardly have any traffic but have posts dating ten years ago.

So back to the question, anyone ever published a real guest post?

Disclaimer: I am a newbie Many of you might have but I find it really hard even if I create awesome content. May be I am missing something.

Go local - you are starting out - reach to some local websites that have low amount of blog / news posts. They may have old and gold domains but don't use their websites much.

We had (well it worked in our country) a good method for few guest posts for wordpress owners. Usually owners of small companies are not even taking care of their websites. So what would we do - contact them, offer free updates and check for errors. After that we would usually have to update theme + plugins + wordpress and then we would have some trust. After that we would ask for a guest post with amazing content that would give their blog new life. They accept, you publish and format blog as you like and gg!

You could also check offline sources, like local community and college papers, who happen to have a website that also posts their content online. They may have a site, but they mainly still consider themselves a physical paper. Offer to write a column or news article and see what happens.

I have done emails like that but the results were the same. Probably it has something to do with the way I looked for blogs. Awesome thread by the way, will definitely try that method. Most of the sites I mail to had metrics like attached, I wonder how I get them

I'm a freelance writer and while growing my writing portfolio, I've landed guest posts on big sites simply by asking. Of course, at first you have to write for small sites. Once you have some articles under your belt, you can start approaching the big sites. And if the big sites recognize your writing to be good enough, you're going to get your chance soon enough. Of course, there will be rejections even if your content is good enough. But you are going to get your breakthrough one of these days.

And just asking doesn't work always. You have to make a good relation with the site owner/whoever is in charge of publishing content.
