I also had some good results with group 4 links in combination with xrumer as tier 3

Great case study.

Anchor keyword diversity is a MUST.

So its a bit unfair on the 2 blog post groups/campaigns, you should have used at least 25-50 closely related LSI on them for more accurate results.
 
Good case study. Seems that #4 worked the best but it was also a burst links package. So, do you think the sites could get penalised because of the volume of links coming in so fast?

Yes I thought a bit about that. I believe the reason for the results was the anchor diversity for a large part. However I gave them all the same anchors. If they didn't follow that, not my fault :-)

87 links doesn't seem like a link volume to get penalized with.

I've been searching for a good Tier 2 service for a while now and I'm glad you went to the trouble of actually testing several and posting your results. I believe your methodology was pretty sound and I've decided to try service 4 out based on your results.

A good case study and perhaps different to what we usually get to see. I would also like to see the impact of anchor diversity on tier 2 and above vs using only bare urls/generic anchors.
 
The work you did ( not to count writing the thread for the ears who can distinguish the music from the noise on BHW) is amazing.

Beside the study case itself, if there is 1 key-point to learn from this is: PATIENCE. Dunno how many of us, don't link their tier 1 for 2 months+ especially when building tier 2 was done in 4 different stages with 4 different services.

I'm glad you liked it. I'm looking to learn lots and threads that teach are few and far between on BHW now. I am trying to do my part to buck the trend. In my opinion my Tier 2 will be what pushes the money site up for those keywords. As far as doing bare urls for Tier 2 I think that would have been harder. Then those properties would have had to rank with authority only. Not possible imho. But you could test it ;-)

Patience is a virtue. The good thing is I'm taking so bloody long on my money site that I have a year to build out my Tiers :-) All my Web 2.0's should have a minimum of 6 posts on them by the time I'm done. Got a few sites in a PBN with content slowly being built out. Hopefully this will be on EPIC launch and skyrocket of ranking.

You are totally right though. Take your time. If you want it to last. Otherwise go nuts and repeat every month :-)

2 questions tho:

you said you used 25 keywords - did you target them all to the same page (home page or inner pages) or to multiple pages (it's this is the case, how many pages)?
the articles posted on the web20's you purchased were scraped and spun by the service providers or did you send them some high quality articles that were spun manually?

Hi

Sorry for the delay. All links/keywords were targeted at the home pages of my Web 2.0's. Nowhere else. Though the blogs have up to 9 pages I believe, I only linked the homepages.

The articles I posted were average article quality with 3 paragraph rewrites, 3 sentence rewrites and then word/phrase spun. They are readable at the moment. Not great quality, but they sound like average seo articles. These cost me about $40 each I think, so nothing to sniff at.

I'm wondering if anyone is interested in me carrying on this case study. If so I need some ideas. What else should I be testing, and how should I judge my results? Let's get some creativity here folks! I had some ideas for this. I was thinking the best way to judge my results from now on it to try and rank a site. I will try to push domains in the serps using my web 2.0's and we can see how far they move and infer somewhat of the linking power from this. That sound like a good idea? Just bouncing ideas around here BHW help me out with some creativity.

I would continut to split/test for multiple websites since you have a significant number of web 2.0 properties and once some are not working, I would add them to the projects which will show results and see how those projects move in SERPs.
 
Fantastic study--thanks for writing this up. I think it would be interesting to experiment with different forms of linking to tier 2/3 to keep the juice flowing...xrumer, social, gsa, bookmarks, shortner blasting, etc.
 
This case study is MONEY - thanks man. I have actually used service 4 on multiple occasions for my tier two and it always work. Thanks for putting it work man

Thanks for the mention and I am glad my recommendation helped you with the Tier 2!

I was in the same position and have a similar strategy so i did my own tests of Tier 2 services (still doing more, just signed up for link emperor)

So far haven't found anything cost effective other than setting up a GSA campaign or outsourcing to a decent provider

To be honest I'm not familiar enough with GSA. Though if you were willing to share some info with me I will throw it against one of these weaker Web 2.0 groups and report on how it stacked up :-)
