I don't think anything will happen 2012, but there is a real threat in 2014 and 2019, and here's why... Back in 1994 I was a freshman at Ohio State and took an astronomy class. In that class the professor mentioned that there was an asteroid that was going to come very close to earth in 2019 (2002 NT7) and they were not sure if it was going to hit or not, but if it didn't it was going to be a spectacular light show... Well a few years after that movies came out like Armageddon, Deep Impact etc with the storyline of an asteroid hitting the earth in present time... then a few years ago Nasa announced that they finally were able to calculate if that asteroid would hit earth or not and they came to the conclusion that it wasn't (what a coincidence!).. Now they have discovered another asteroid that may hit in March of 2014 (2003 QQ47)... so Maybe the Mayans were off a few years but I wouldn't worry about 2012, I would worry more about 2014 and 2019 because do you think the government would say something if they knew we were going to get hit?...
