When I'm hungry I get agitated, impatient, and I lose my concentration easily. I snap for the smallest things. Obvious solution? Have a meal.

The problem is that when I eat, I get incredibly sluggish and lazy to the point where I fight through the rest of my workday rather than enjoy it. So I lose no matter what I do. No food = angry and impending death. Food = tired.

I've been told to eat small meals spread out over the day rather than a few big ones like I do now. The next thing I need to know is what to eat and when to eat it. That's where you come into the picture.

Do you have any recommendations for books/websites about how/what to eat to stay alert and productive?

Vitamin B is supposed to help turn food into energy. Take it about 30 minutes before you eat.

Cut out grains and sugar and see if you have the same problem. I was always super tired after eating until I eliminated grains and sugar completely from breakfast and lunch. I still occasionally have whole grains with dinner but rarely have sugar anymore. It's not that hard and might be the source of your problem.

So if you don't eat you feel cranky. If you eat you feel tired. Hmmmm...

There's a simple solution to this: "Metamucil" mixed with water. 0 calories, yet you'll feel satiated. ;)

P.S.: Don't start shouting "Snakes in the loo!" the other day!

Not everybody's body responds the same way to grains. Some grains aren't as hard on me, but they all make me sleepy to some degree which is why I will only eat them a few hours before bed, aka dinner.

Grains = Carbohydrates -> sugar once you eat them

Just cause the 're 'whole' doesn't mean it 's less bad :) Whole means there 's some extra fibers and vitamins. They are still killing your diet though ;)

You need no books to stay motivated. Just try harder to concentrate. Don't give up, don't make excuses. Quit slacking

Actually there's much more to it than that.

8 out of 10 people have at least a mild gluten (Wheat protein) intolerance. The wheat grown now is almost unrecognizable from wheat hundreds of years ago. It has 43 chromosomes (created by breeding - up from 13 original chromosomes) and produces all kinds of proteins that haven't existed in nature before. It's harvested 2x a year and REQUIRES lots of fertilizers and pesticides or it'll die in the field.

Grains in general are indigestible - they actually are biologically inert "on purpose" to store their energy until they sprout.

I was dating a woman who had an autoimmune response to wheat. Her body developed antibodies for wheat, but the antibodies were recognizing proteins in her thyroid as wheat, which meant her body was attacking itself. She gained a lot of weight and has sleeping problems as a result.

Grains can mess you up. Take a look at the slow carb diet from the Four Hour Body and/or Tim Ferriss' website.
