EMD does work

In general , they do not work and it is well accepted fact. There might be exceptions like your case but I still feel that the main cause be good seo for ranking and not being EMD.

Yeah, They don't work as they used to before. But still you can rank for low comp terms with EMD but still you need to actual SEO for it in order to rank for your term.
