Hi

I need some advice. I have been doing dropshipping for the last 4 years.
My mail income is from email campaigns, I have 55.000 subs, all collected through my stores over the years.

For years I have been using shopify email with some tweeks and my open rate is 20-25% on average.
Recently I decided to try mailer lite and it was a painful experience. My open rate there was 2%. EVERY single email went to spam.
I tested my email through mail tester and it showed scores 9 or 9.5 but nevertheless, results were very bad.

I am trying to move from shopify emal because the "tweeks" I am using will stop working in couple of days.

Apps like mailer lite, mailchimp, brevo.... those are basically shit.

I have decided to get my own mail server (VPS) with dedicated IP and use smtp for sending.

Now, I am almost there, my server will be ready in a day or two.

BUT

What the hell should I use to send email blasts?
All the apps I have seen are rubbish, no option for designing a great email. At the end of the day, I need the email campaigns to look clean, pretty and professional.
I am planning to buy several email templates from theme forest, so the design part is solvable. But I havent been able to find an app that I can use to send from my server and that offers some design options.

Any advices?

Not 1 but you have 2 options here you can either pick mailwizz or mumara both offers inbuilt template builder including AI support.

Good luck :)

I doubt you have better results with your own IP in the long run. Mailchimp or Sendgrid works perfectly for real own customer list.

Which country are your users mostly from? There are some countries offering possibilities to increase inbox dramatically.

He built the email list from multiple brands. He likely won’t be able to use them on mailchimp or any public server platforms due to spam reports. His best option will likely be to get his own ip and build a reputation over time.

Update:

I think I found a solution, but I haven't used anything similar.

Has anyone used Mautic on their own server for emai campaigns?

It’s open source and I haven’t found any bad review. And I found plenty of templates for Mautic (free and paid) that I can import through html.

Mailchimp and services like those are way to expensive and have very low open rate. I can’t use any warmup tools and for some reason my campaigns allways go to spam.

The best solution so far was shopify email and I am using hide my email icloud as my sender email. Shopify masks it due to apple policies and the sender is basically shopifymail. Because of this, my open rate was very high.

But shopify is throttling this by imposing send limits and forcing merchants to use their own domains. Even when I do everything by the book with my own domain and mail tester shows 9.5 score - my emails end up in spam.

So I see no other option, I need a solution I can control 100%.

I just looked into mailwizz and mumara. They also might be a solution, but for some reason I lean toward an open source solution (Mautic).
I have been doing dropshipping over 4 years and from my experience, when the solution is "plug&play" you never really know what is going on under the hood and there are all sorts of problems.

Also, I need a warmup service? Any advices?

Thanks guys

for me, the best solution is PowerMTA. It is used by many big companies for email marketing

That's a serious enterprise-grade solution.
What is the price range?

Don't do that. Use Mailerlite, Mailchimp or similar service.
There is no way you got 2% open rate on Mailerlite, if you did something everything correctly.

This is my 2nd campaign on Mailerlite:

(p.s. the email list wasn't even cleaned up)

So it's definitely not Mailerlite's fault, it's yours...

I have no idea what I have done wrong, I have SPF, DKIM, DMARC, everything is in place.
And this is my last test, this is barely over 10% of my list and they are the most engaged ones (returning buyers).

If the list is yours, use something standard like MailChimp, getresponse, aWaber....

If the list is not yours, then use your own SMTP server or an other solution that is good for cold mailing

The list is mine, segmented by domain, order value range, LCV.
I have tried mailerlite, mailchimp, sendgrid and brevo. The results are the same - shit.

I tried talking with customer support of every one of these services and they tell me the same thing, you need to segment your list.
My list is segmented.
Well, segment it better.

I'm chasing my tail with these services and I have lost a fair amount of money testing all of these. Not to mention a % of my list I have churned because of these tests.

On the other hand, shopify mail with a "gray" solution (hide my email icloud) has been giving me consistent results for years.

I'm not doing any BH shit with my list, just selling products, plain and simple.

I just need my emails to end up in "Promotions" tab... I dont even need the primary. Just to avoid spam.

OP I am in a similar position.

I have 100k+ emails built up in a specific niche that I want to use for a business I’m creating.

I want to use these emails, but they haven’t directly opted in and I can’t use platforms such as Brevo.

Currently, I’m using hostdel for cold email marketing. Open rates are low 1-2% but it is off a new reputation. Over time I’m going to try and build this reputation specifically for my brand and see how it goes.

Still looking into more opportunities though, signed up for a free trial at Apollo.io and will try that out too.

Instaling Mautic on my VPS right now. Should be up and running soon, so I will share my results.

So, I have set everything up, but now I need smtp for transport. Any advices?

I've been using mailwizz with amazon smtp for years. Its been great and I wouldn't consider any other setup.

Amazon is quite notorious these days and you need to go through shitload of verification. Tried, they denied me (SES).

Noob question - can I create my own smtp on my VPS?

Yes, you can create your own smtp, but you should check first with your host because many block port 25 and 587.
