Effective Linkbuilding Strategy for and Authority Website

I have been building a authority site following along with these 2 threads:

Currently have over 200 unique articles each targeting a KW. Only links that have been built so far are directory links with URL and Brand Name anchors pointing at the homepage. There is internal linking throughout the site with related KW's linked to targeted article as per the 2 threads above.

Site has not gotten much traction yet. Do I continue to build links to the homepage and let juice flow throughout? Should I change up the anchors to the 200 KW's that the many articles target? Or am I supposed to start a link campaign for each individual article?

Note: Trying to keep everything as legit as possible and aiming to build a long-term business website on not a flash in the pan the ranks with BH links temporarily and later gets slapped.

Any help would be much appreciated.

Curious too. I too have followed those threads and created a similar site but not to that scale. Currently at 80ish articles and looking to start backlinking at 100.

Current traffic is a laughable 5-10 unique visitors a day. All internal linking and posting of articles have been done manually. Also followed the KW density guide in PHP Built's thread above.

Have also built a FB page, G+, YTube, Twitter, and IG for this site also but haven't done much promotion wise with the channels to drive any traffic.
 
PM me the site and I could take a look. You should definitely be getting more traffic than that!
 
Maybe you need to do SEO off page aka backlinks. Your site needs it to get the top ranking at Google.

You need better backlinks from good domains. Not just directories.

There are the known places: web2.0, article sites and simple guests posts on crappy sites.

There are real guest posts you can make - on real websites, once a week.

There are blog comments, manually done and meant for: backlinks, traffic and networking.

And you can also think outside of the box: if your niche is "dolls with one eye" -> you can go to forums and post a survey/discussion. then follow up with a blog post and link to it from the thread. 90% of the people will see it as legit.

You can also have a kick ass blog post with links to bloggers in the niche. Then contact them on twitter or by commenting on their blog. Some of them will comment and thank you for mentioning them, some will link to you and some will even share it to their followers - which brings more traffic-> more links and shares -> more traffic... you get the idea.

Both threads are far from perfect. I

- I hope you did proper keyword research.
- check your domain link profile
- check if there is info in web.archive.org/ in my experience if you see some bad snapshots there like hard porn warez etc it will be hard to get Google love.
- Content marketing - everybody is in the boat now and even a year back. If you publish mediocre content it will be very hard to rank well. Exceptional article on a topic up to 1000-5000 searches a month sometimes is 80-90% of what it takes to rank on top 5. The rest is several links.
- Links you need link to inner pages. If you use SEO services stay away from everything that says, fast, cheap, network, guraneteed, quality for under $200-300 bucks.
- Social signals. You need very good content and they will come naturally and more important free. The funny thing is you need traffic to generate traffic. So, use paid niche related traffic or generate it with commenting on blogs, forums or other communities. This is hard but works.

There are smart ways to do it. For example monitor social networks like twitter or fb or websites of your top competitors. Set Google alerts etc. Be the first to comment. Many of their visitors will come and check your website. You better offer something of value. Even if it sounds ancient you don't have a choice if your budget is lower than $1000 a month for content and promotion. I advice you to do it or pay someone to do it anyway.

Websites like mashable.com and 1000s started this way.

The list can go on forever.

I don't know how much you invest in this project but content marketing is not cheap. Invest in content about 700-1000 words. I don't know your niche but if you can afford it and your topics can take 1000 word articles with no fluff do it and you will rank. I am doing it since 2012.

The point is you can't spend $1-2=3-n-k on crappy articles and to expect people to love your website. There are signals for Google like onsite metrics like time on site, bounce rate, real social share etc. And if your content is crap your score will be low.

Definitely interlink using keywords, lsi and related terms on your site. Only when natural to do so however.

In regards to backlinks, these should be to home page and individual articles.

How have you been submitting to directories, manually or automated?
 
A good basis of for an authority site is understanding your niche. there is not point starting a website on spray tan if you have never/never will use the stuff. I find that when doing a large site it is better to write your own content, because authority sites need to be GOOD quality.

Also keyword research is where a lot of people get confused, it is not easy to find the actually difficulty of a keyword - the large softwares like TT and UNF do not give an accurate difficulty rating whats so ever.

Thanks for the info. Will look into these avenues. So far roughly $5k into this project. I do have a budget that can meet $1000 a month how should that be used for promotion. Also for the first 200 articles they are "decent" some fluff 500-700 word articles currently adding good quality articles ranging from 1000-5000 words - though these are not so much KW targeted but info is top notch.

Have only been submitting to high PR paid directories manually.

Starting to add GOOD content now though not really keyword targeted but a lot of naturally occurring lsi words. The niche is a personal hobby and interest of mines hence the reason why I have stuck with it for this long without trying to BH link blast it and monetize. But still looking for the best way to focus my efforts while keep moving forward.

I just googled strongest link directories and found a few lists organized by PR.
 
What is the quality of your articles like? If there is bad spelling etc that could be the problem...

Most of the articles are well written from a grammer and spelling stand point. I read them all and upload each manually. They are all KW targeted but so e are a bit thin on helpful info. currently adding authority content targeted strictly on useful information but these are not particularly written with SEO being the priority.
 
10 UV from 200 arts? That is too much low traffic -- Check all the imp elements starting from niche, kw research to end with backlinks profile.

Niche is pretty competitive - fitness/weightloss, kw research is alright - outsourced half with freelancer using a variety of tools and I researched the others with 1000-5000 search volume and low comp via GKWT. Back links only consist of high PR directories. Looking for info on improving my back link profile regarding anchors to the homepage and if I should build links to all 200+ inner pages.
 
wow, 200 articles and 5-10 UV daily ? and they all are copyscape-passed ?
Have you check the on site part? and perhaps the domain history?
IMO there's something really not right on your on-site, not the backlinks and off-site stuffs.
