effect on SEO changing website and/or domain

Hi,
with one of our partners, we are disentangling a website we had been working on for 6 yrs now and is ranked number 1 for niche related high traffic keywords and a good monthly organic traffic.

Part of the disentanglement would be for us to depart of either the domain name or the website. I'd like to know how much are we losing in the process if we keep the domain name vs if we keep the website itself and change the domain name.

Any thoughts on this ? thanks

The domain name is the one that got the backlinks, so keep it, do not drop the domain name.

Also you can create another website where your old domain will redirect, but you need to research this thing a bit before actually committing to it.

if you still have control of the original domain you can use a 301 redirect to a new domain and keep the influence of the existing backlinks

As per you, if the website is ranking 1 on high search keywords then probably its DA and other parameters would be good. IMO keep the domain.

If you do not wish to keep that website - why not just 301 it to a new domain or something? That way, you'd save the link juice for the new site in the process, and the domain authority would be partially transferred to the new site as well.
Otherwise, if you do not want the domain, but want to keep the website, I believe you can just import the site data to the new site, and it should function on the new domain - but you'd be loosing everything in terms of authority that you've built for the past 6 years, as the new site is brand new and no link juice or link power.
Advice is, keep the domain + content. If you need a new site - just build the new site, and you can juice the new site with your old domain by linking them.

You should for sure keep the domain name.
Because even if you depart from the content you can create new similar content to the previous URLS. Including in the domain you also have all back links.

I'd keep the domain name. It's easy to re-do everything from scratch. The backlinks you've earned with your domain name, however, could be difficult to replace.

We are keeping the domain but we need to negotiate for the 301 redirects now. It's not cool to have to do this.
