Not really shared a "guide" on here before but I know ecommerce get's asked a fair bit from when I was lurking. I had to write up a template / tutorial ready to start out sourcing my product content creation so I adapted it a bit to share as a post / guide on here.
Note this takes a bit of time and effort and if you have a ton of products you might be put off but the rewards are worth it...
So your products:
If the product comes with a description, it’s best to start with that and then look at re-writing that in your own words.
Let start with a watch as an example so let’s assume, I’m going to resell watches and here is the manufactures description:
TAG HEUER CARRERA
Automatic Chronograph - Diameter 41 mm
A sporty TAG Heuer Carrera chronograph equipped with the Calibre 16 automatic movement. The black ceramic fixed tachymeter bezel reflects its roots in the pits and paddocks of motor-racing.
So I start by re-write that to the following:
Tag Heuer Carrera Watch
The sport TAG Heuer Carrera comes equipped with the calibre 16 automatic movement. Featuring a black ceramic bezel is a nod to the watch’s history and roots in the pits and paddocks of motor-racing.
Not the best I know! Essentially, we start with re-spinning but using your own words rather than a bot.
It helps if it’s a product you know something about so you can add your own knowledge.
Next now is time to start googling the product for competitors and seeing what they have listed as a description.
First site found:
Reinterpreting a classic, this handsome, automatic timepiece presents a beautiful black dial complete with a day-date display window, luminescent hour markers and three chronograph sub-dials.
Set within a 43mm polished stainless steel case, this handsome watch fastens with a stainless steel H-shape bracelet with double safety push buttons.
Double anti-reflective scratch resistant sapphire crystal glass, a reliable automatic calibre with 42-hour power reserve enhances the functionality of this watch. This timepiece is also water resistant to 100 metres.
The TAG Heuer Carrera collection, inspired by the famous Carrera Pan-Americana auto race, pays tribute to the competitive, risk-taking nature of motor racing. First created in 1963, these timepieces reflect a fashionable, thrilling need for speed whilst offering reliable robust performance. For those who play hard and demand the best.
So again as this is a longer description we want to start by reading that, understand it and then start by re-writing it in our own words.
Again, here is my effort:
The sport TAG Heuer Carrera comes equipped with the calibre 16 automatic movement. Featuring a black ceramic bezel, complete with day-date display window, luminescent hour markers and dials and three chronograph sub-dials.
Set within a 43mm polished stainless-steel case comes complete with a H-shape bracelet and double pin push buttons.
Not just pretty but practical the watch face has a double anti-reflective scratch resistant glass and water resistant to 100 meters (100m)
First created in 1963 the Carrera watch has its own history with a nod to the watch’s history and roots in the pits and paddocks of motor-racing.
Now we have something to work with.
Again it’s not the best example but gets you on the right footing.
Gone are the days of re-using description and I know many do when they import from AliExpress but if you want to get ahead then you need to be unique.
Next we want to look at including a product feature list.
Fairly straight forward even if it’s as simple as the t-hsirt size, dimensions and recommended wash & iron settings! Not going to cover this in great detail as it just lets you expand your current product page a bit more information.
So far we now have a description & feature list.
My preferred choice here now is to start hunting for featured snippets, common questions and what people ask for. I try to add 2-3 on a page depending on the product and allow 2-3 lines for each – no more.
Depending on the product this can be hard if you use the example of costume jewlery but if you start to add things like “clean x product” or “clean x item” or “repair x item” you can start to expand that list by finding new information.
Googling TAG HEUER CARRERA CALIBRE 16
Doesn’t bring up much info, although searches related does mention straps and different finishes > this I will add to my notes for something to maybe expand upon later with.
If I could see there was a demand for searching for different straps, finishes, colours I could increase my sub categories or even introduce a new product line I've not through about before.
Lets go a bit broader and start with TAG HEUER CARRERA
Bingo! We get the People also ask
Let’s start to click on a few and see what comes up. Here all we want to do is find relevant questions people are asking and see which ones we can work into our product page.
Hers one: Is Tag Heuer Carrera Automatic?
To me it doesn’t really answer the question! Plus if you google Is Tag Heuer Carrera Automatic?
No featured box comes up when searching, we do have the people ask box which does not answer the question AND when you do search for Tag Heuer Carrera Automatic? nearly all of the links are branded so for me id target that into my product page.
Why? Well it gives us a chance to get additional brand or product exposure. Help find new ranking opportunities and can drive traffic.
So on our product page lets have:
KW (product name) Common Asked Questions
Is Tag Heuer Carrera Automatic? Yes! All Tag Heuer Carrera watches are automatic. The users movement charges the battery which has a 48hour battery life cycle if no movement is maintained.
It’s to the point and it answers the question asked where as the one above although the word “automatic” if featured it does not actually answer the users search. I've always placed the question in bold although I have seen people comment that Q. and A. works well for snippets but I've not tried it myself.
The idea is to find questions that you think could be answered better or don’t have any relevant answers.
You include these on your product page it helps to rank the site for various featured snippets however you need to be careful. Targeting a product page to answer a “cleaning” question might not lead you to a sale.
So you want to try and find questions or relevant search topics that relate to a pre-sale.
Now your product page has gone from a copy and paste manufactures description:

TAG HEUER CARRERA COMMON QUESTIONS
IS Tag Heuer Carrera Automatic? Yes! All Tag Heuer Carrera watches are automatic. The users movement charges the battery which has a 48hour battery life cycle if no movement is maintained.
I know this will take a while depending on the product and niche, but this is my now my go to method for creating product description.
Following this formula has allowed me to rank for nearly all related featured snippets where my product page answers a question. Exact match, Long Tails and related product searches I sit at No.1 to No.5 not just that but because my product information is longer I've started to see google favour the page also..
It's helped me gain new traffic from different sources and has been a fundamental strategy for the last 2 years or so in building up my google presence..
Hope its of use!
