My account was suspended and received this from live support:

"To protect the Community against unauthorized account access, eBay has started noting which computers members use. For your protection, if you attempt to sign in from an unknown computer - for example, from a library or hotel ? eBay will make an automated phone call to your registered phone number to confirm your identity. It is now vital that the phone number and secret question on your account are kept up to date. Please take a minute to update your contact information."

This announcement came out last month from eBay but I didn't think they would suspend accounts first for this. Damn!

Wow another example of Ebay stepping up their security measures....

Reads to me like you will need a dedicated computer for each of your eBay accounts, as well as a separate business entity for each.

You know its funny because this month I have not stuffed any cookies (BANS Site) and I am making good money. Now I have not been banned but it makes me wonder if they ban some of their affiliates that are on the up and up so to speak. Basically they can ban you without reason if they wanted to (as well as any other affiliate network).

Was this a selling account or an EPN account or does this apply to all?

This could make it difficult for people buying e*gay accounts.

They are protecting sellers. Seller account hijacking had risen tremendously. Unfortunately the net they cast is too wide.

Naah. People selling just have to start include a Skype account with a Skype.-In number. That will just give them more to sell and more money in their pockets.

So... how are they "noting which computers members use"....? They doing this just based on IP address? Or, is there something else?

so they suspended your seller account for this? i would have thought they would have just sent you a warning. were you selling stuff?

They ask you to submit a picture of your monitor apon registering, you then have to prove you won that monitor by sending them a recipt from where you bought it.

Of course its a fucking IP address.

Ok dude, chill. Maybe it was a dumb question, but you don't have to be an ass about it. The question came up, because I've been reading and hearing so many things lately about IP's, proxies, and tracking computers, and there was something talking about being able to track individual computers past the IP address, and that's really what I was getting after.

Of course its a fucking IP address.

and if i have DSL connection (dial-up) with dynamic ip ?
so they ban me only because i have new ip everytime i connect to the internet? ......no i dont think so.

Why did they bother making an eB@y app for the iPhone? The have to realize that you get a new ip with every log in.
