About a week ago I sold an apple computer. It did not sell for how much I wanted but I shipped it anyway, I did not want to pay an additional $4 dollars for tracking and I sent it that way. It has not even been a full week and the buyer opened a case on me saying he did not receive the item. Now I must give him a full refund or provide tracking number which I do not have. Im pretty sure he got the laptop and is just saying he did not receive it. Is there a way I can prove that I sent the item? Also what would happen if I dont give a refund? Will cops come after me for $1800 im sure he has the laptop tho. I used about 100$ already from the money. This is not a verified paypal, it once was but I changed my bank and it went back to being unverified. Can I get in anymore trouble other than just having my accounts deleted. I do not want to give somebody a free laptop. Please help.

Most likely the buyer saw it didn't have tracking and opened the case immediately. Unethical, but it works. Why the @$%! did you not add $4 tracking to a $1000+ item?!
I am not sorry to say this but you messed up big time! Why would a person not protect themselves by purchasing $4 dollars for a tracking number? You could have added this in the pricing alone and that would have covered the cost on a measly $4. This will cost you big time and will teach you a lesson selling on Ebay!

Post Men have been known to be light fingered occasionally.
Packages do get lost.
Can't really think of a good reason to send something over $1000 without some form of insurance.

If he just wants to be an arse like that, quickly mail another package to him with nothing in it with a tracking number. Add that tracking number to the item on eBay and once it says delivered, he'll be screwed.
If I just use the money to buy something else since I can't send money to bank, and I don't give him a refund what will happen? Will cops come after me or will ebay just close the account? I had about 27 positives in the last year with no negative feedback. Account is like 3 or 4 years old.

The problem lies at your door. It is up to you to prove he has the item. You cant even "think" he has it, you have no idea. The burden of proof is yours or they will come after you for the refund. The tools to prove you sent it were at your disposal when you sent it. Thats what a tracking ID is for. Think of it also from his side and that he might never have got it and you scammed him (I'm not saying you did) and now he wants his money back. Its harsh but you won't win this without your tracking ID.
Why do I get the feeling that you are trying to scam the buyer, and you have only opened this to see if the cops will come after you if you do not post the laptop.
Anyhow to answer your question, nothing really will happen. If the money is in PayPal, take it out if you have the chance. I have had eBay decide to dish my money back out many of times, so I have taken money and closed accounts.

I never ship anything over $50 without a tracking # because I don't want to get screwed out of $50. But sending an $1800 item without tracking because it cost $4 more? Wow!! You can't prove anything, so your screwed. It certainly looks suspicious that the buyer is trying to scam you by opening up a case against you after only 1 week. He should have waited a couple of more weeks to make his claim look more legit. But it wouldn't matter anyway. The buyer wins 100% of the time in this scenario.

OP seems genuine here from the words he has used in my opinion. Lesson to learn here is NEVER send anything of any value not tracked. $4 is very cheap insurance. I ALWAYS send anything tracked and suggest you do the same in future for this very reason. Good luck....

Do exactly what Kayla said.E-mail him another package with tracking.It can be empty or just a potato inside.Then after the status changed to delivered.Give the tracking number to paypal.Easy!

Mate go to the company you shipped with take the bill receipt and ask them to track it for you tell them that your customer saying he didn't receive the package they will do the work fo ryou

I think he has gathered the fact he should have added the $4's and the lesson is learnt now. I'd say your hunch is correct about him lying. He obviously seen no tracking and prematurely opened the case on ebay which is the tell tell sign that he was lying (he probably didn't even care). Paypal will try take the money back themselves and lock your account till successful. Police will not come. Your best option is to break all ties with your actual bank account and PayPal to stop them taking back the money and excepting the paypal accounts as extinct just. You can't use it again without bringing the balance back out of negativity! Unlucky with this one and lesson learnt just. Hopefully Karma will see him soon.
