i had sold my first mobile phone on ebay for some extra pocket money to help with student expenses. However, things turned out very bad and distressing.

to begin, i sold a iphone on ebay and the buyer paid with paypal.very soon after i received an email from him asking for him to collect the item which was at the time unusual. However, after reviewing his profile i realized he had a number of recent feedbacks, which were dating back 2 weeks from my sale date all of which were positives with comments all along the lines of buyer collecting the item and them not having any problems etc.

in addition, considering i had spent a while to build the positive feedback over the years on ebay i did not want to receive a negative for declining the buyers request.

so i agreed and allowed the buyer to collect the item, which he then did the very next day and all seemed normal at the time of the exchange

however, some days later i receive an email from ebay which stated that the listing was removed because; the item was a unauthorized purchase. i quickly noticed that the buyers feedback which had initially assured me of any doubts had quickly disappeared of his profile.

soon after a case commenced on paypal for a unauthorized payment.

at this moment in time i spent continuous hours speaking to paypal and ebay. who advised me to report the matter to the police via a webpage called action fraud , who then having taken my account of the events had provided me with a crime reference number and assuring me that they will look into this matter.

i then quoted the crime reference in the ongoing paypal dispute case, and soon after the case was closed and i was emailed to be informed that the case was now being reviewed by paypal fraud specialists.

not long after another case was opened for the same item, this time it was a chargeback, from the credit card company which was used to pay for the item via paypal.

so again, i began giving my side of the story in the ongoing paypal case re quoting the original crime reference number. however, a little while later i got an email from paypal to say the buyer had been refunded because; i had failed to meet the seller requirement of posting the item but they added that they would dispute the matter on my behalf with the credit card company.

so by now my account is in minus of almost £400 with supposedly a additional fee charged by the credit card company due to them intervening in the case.

now i have spent various hours again working with paypal, who have just taken me in circles adamant to make me wait until they reach a settlement with their ongoing dispute with the credit card company.

i have spent countless attempts to try and explain to paypal that cannot simply afford to pay back such an amount in my current financial circumstance without any luck.

this whole incident has just taken me to a new level of feeling very low. To make matters worse, i can no longer use my paypal account due to it being in negative, this has restricted me from earning a few pounds to help aid me currently as a student.

any advice which could help with this matter would be greatly appreciated.

many thank for spending the time reading my my case.

Tough luck. This really stinks when there are people out there that take advantage of you like this. What did the police say when you contacted them? Have they gotten back to you yet on this?

You should never allow the buyer to collect the item if he paid by PayPal - you can't prove that you have given him the item.
If the buyer comes to collect, it always has to be cash he pays with - no PayPal or anything like that. If it's PayPal, then you ship the item to them and get a proof of shipping - no collection.

Hi, ebay claims that the buyers account was compromised.

however, in my personal opinion i find it difficult how the buyers email, ebay, paypal and card details all were compromised without rasing any form of doubts. (duly because; the buyer had bought items of a similar nature dating back more than 2 weeks.)

additionally, the address details which were used on paypal and the ebay account appear to be false. i.e the first line of address and the postcode are almost 5 miles apart.

i have attempted to ask paypal on this matter, who cannot seem to provide me with a straight forward answer as to why the account was confirmed with a false address. Additionally i know i am not the only one who has been stung with this matter. As i almost certain the feedback which was later removed are all buyers who have also been affected by the same scam.

however, i dont want to take matters in my own accord, provided that the users account was truly compromised. But i feel the lack of support from paypal and ebay on this matter, has taught me their policies are flawed and bull****.

i am left thinking if i don't pay up i may be locked from using paypal again. I dont want this to be the case. Since most companies and users only deal with Paypal.

I just hope something comes out of this dispute beetween paypal and the credit card company.

PS: after taking a tour on the site, i have realized that it is possible to create another paypal account, separate to my old account. whilst my ongoing matter is sorted it would be useful to have another paypal account which i can use to pay for services/goods online if someone could direct me in the right direction on how this can be done, it would be grateful.

Globe12, sorry to hear that you were scammed right out of the gate. These guy's that do this only hurt the industry since
new comers are screwed out of their hard earned money that they were going to invest. Sad truth is that since you delivered over
the item without tracking confirmation there is not much that can be done at this point. Further more PayPal cannot do much since
the credit card company a long with the bank has the real authority in this situation.

Once you recover from this here are some good tips for successful selling.

    1. Always take a picture of the mailing receipt.
    2. Always deliver using the option of signed delivery confirmation.

See if they sign for it then it means they accepted it and nothing they can do at this point. You just learned a hard lesson and need
to recover from it and next time you will know how to handle these thieves.

    Best of luck to you!

Only eBay, PayPal and the police can help you...

    Hard luck.

I can't understand how you feel, you needed money and instead of getting that money your account was over drawn and now you can't use it to even make the little living.

Use all the arsenal in your power to fight it otherwise you will be blamed like it's all turning out..

Unfortunately I have never seen a situation where the police was much help. Most of the time the case is reported but never
    acted upon. Sad but true.

many thanks for your feedback guys.

i think all i can do at the moment is to wait and see what the outcome will be beetween paypal and the credit card company.

Although i will not give in this easily until the matter is thoroughly investigated by ebay and paypal.
