I think 1% would be an average. You have to figure that if just 1 out of every 100 car owners would pay to have their car cleaned and detailed that a 1% conversion would be achieved. In fact, I believe it would be higher than 1% especially if you only posted flyers on higher end cars like Mercedes, BMW's or Bentley's as these types of car owners are more meticulous about their cars and are willing to pay to keep their $65,000+ car cleaned.

The only real flaw I see is assuming a 1% return on flyer distribution. I don't know why people always think 1% is totally achievable regardless of what they doing and to what scale. Still, I wish you the best of luck and hope you get a whopping 2% return :) . I myself would like to go offline and start thinking of a simple, legitimate business plan like this.
 
I'm very curious if you can achieve your 1% goal by sending out fliers. Anyway I really hope you keep this threat updated even if you didn't reach your initial goals. Good luck!
 
I like the plan, and looking forward to your success! I have a question though, by car detailing what do you do exactly? I mean, what services do you do for a client? Just curious :)
 
Work on a referral system as well.

Every 3 or 4 referrals a customer gives you earns them a free detailing.

And the people that get referred will get say 10% or 15% off their first detailing. Friends and family will be more willing to refer people close to them if they know they can save a loved one some cash.


With referrals you can make that 10k estimated first month look more like 15k ;)


Also, when putting out flyers, try to only put them on cars worth $45,000 and up. If they can spend a lot of money on their car, they most likely have the money to get their car detailed, and do on a regular basis. But from what I've read, you live in an area where you don't have to worry about finding cars with the price tag of $65,000 and up lol.

Hello and thanks for the comment. Car Detailing in very simple terms is cleaning a car which involves washing the exterior, cleaning the interior (i.e. Vacuuming, Armor All & Leather Treatment) and also waxing the car if it's included in the package that the customer chooses. There's also a number of other services that car detailing entails such as Engine Detailing, Tire Shine and wheel well washing so there is a quite a bit of work involved but once you get in a routine it becomes pretty main stream.

Great idea man and I think this will work. It's these kinds of ideas and unique "Marketing" approaches that can be taken to be a step ahead of competition and can easily be the difference between a $10,000 month and a $15,000 month as you stated. Handing out flyers fir car detailing is a pretty targeted market as your flyers are reaching your exact target customer with each flyer you post so I don't believe a 1% conversion is too far fetched. Certainly time will tell and once they're handed out and I see the calls and business that's coming in I'll be posting the results so we can can see how effective they are. I'm getting a ton on top of flyers and for costing under $100 there's no way I could go wrong. Thanks for the input though! :)

Some of the equipment I found on eBay (New) and most I found at Home Depot (i.e. Pressure Washer, Generator & Shop Vac). If you do some searching around you'd be surprised at what good deals you can find. There's plenty of good buys out there you just have to do some searching & shopping around to find them.

I have thought about this. You can try to flyer at Office parks. I work in a very large Office park and each day I see dirty cars. I was mentioning this to a friend about setting up a mobile car cleaning business at the office park and one thing I couldn't figured is how to deal with water. Obviously you will need a lot of water to rinse the cars right? How much water to you plan to take with you, where do you refill? Is it OK with your countries environment law to wash cars outdoors? E.g. I believe in Holland we are not allowed to wash cars outside such as in front our homes due to the usage of cleaning products and people are letting the used water run in to the gutter and such, the law says it's harmful for the environment.
I there is a another way to clean cars without too much waste products, I would love to hear it. Just too worried about scratches if you're not using water.

Hello everyone and I hope you're having a great day. Just wanted to update this thread to let everyone know that tomorrow I'll be getting the company vehicle (A 2006 Van) so my biggest expense will be out of the way and I'll be one huge step closer to starting to make money! :D

Good luck with your business mate.

I also wondered what 'detailing' was - it's not called that in the UK.

I would think things will start out slower than you think. Please don't take this as a negative, it's just the way things tend to be in business and of course at the start you have no repeat customers which frankly will be make or break for your type of business.

I'd try and concentrate on the 7-11, that way you don't need to move around, or at least be there on the exact same days each week.

Remember though people may not know what you are doing there. Have some big banners made, and actually walk up to people and give them a flyer and explain what you are up to (perhaps with a discount lasting a week or so).

People may not use you straight away but once they have seen you there a few times they are more likely to try you out.

I always see FedEx with a mobile detailer washing their trucks and vans, but never thought anything of it.

That 7-11 would be a good place to advertise, but i think a waste of time to set up shop. People pulling up to get gas or running in to pick up a drink or something, aren't prepared to wait there for an hour to get their car detailed.

I mean, i don't think it's a spontaneous decision people make.
