Of course, 50 is way too small amount. But I believe he is not supposed to stop there. Picking out now may let him focus on increasing traffic without any other hassle.
When I've tried to star those things, my main question was HOW TO MAKE MONEY. Getting no money in an instant caused loss of interest for me. So focus on HOW TO MAKE TRAFFIC instead, and read more and more newbie themes there.

As your site is don't look for Alexa. You should do SEO, publish daily articles, share your site on SM. Focus on SEO and Backlink more. And then only you will get PR offers. And definitely this will take more time.
