Been there over 25 times in the past 12 years. Good place to do business.
I think these places are what you want to make of it, a bit of culture, very little history. Pop across to Oman instead for that.

We have eaten out at all types of restaurants from cheap & cheerful Karachi Darbar to costing a little bit more Robertos.

Emirates are a decent airline, nice lounges and courtesy cars.

Some great hotels there too.

It depends on what you are wanting there, some of the tourist stuff is too much in your face.

If you live in Europe, it's great for winter sun with a nice Christmas Day swim and 28 degrees sunshine.

I like to travel. And I have a very weak passport. Dubai is strategically placed where you can travel anywhere in the world with ease (mostly direct flights). And with residency, you can just go to embassies in here for visas instead of going to embassies in your home country

The way it works is you got 2 stages in your life when you get out of 9-5 rat race.

Stage 1 entrepreneur
At this stage you work and live alone. You move places. You take risk, especially financial.

Stage 2 founder/leader
You settle down at a base location. You got people working for you. You don't take risk. You want to live comfortably. Make a difference in people's life.
 
Went there many times, just a few months ago the last time. Paradise for rich people, hell for poor people or better to say migrant workers. I know a german guy who made millions with ecommerce in Dubai. Another guy who made millions selling golden phone cases and champagne bottles (i think this guy is also on BHW). Definitely a lot of potential. People are spending money there like crazy.

I know a friend, who sold his bike to get Dubai to find a job and returned after a week without job. I think its not easy to get a job even its practically nothing.
 
It’s all artificial and fake. Very strict laws. You can get decapitated for doing a stupid little thing. I will never go there. Only western world for me.

What niche was he on ecommerce ? I heard it was hard to make money there with e-commerce.

But happy for you if you are enjoying your stay.
 
You live there? I know cost of living can be a bit much. I visited a couple years ago. I'm from Canada, raised here but my parents are Arab. Might be an Arab genetic thing but I can't stand another Canadian winter. 8 months here is just absolute shite weather. You'd recommend living there if you're decently wealthy? Or is it just a nice place as a tourist?

It’s the best place to be if you’re wealthy (but weathly hits different in Dubai) other than the polluted air.
You have pros and cons but all my Canadian friends here say it’s the best decision they made (some with Arab parents)

I am in Dubai since 2011 and I see the same thing, rich people can buy anything and poor people are soo poor that sometime they can't even buy food.
Sad but true
 
The desert air is not good for spending your lifetime there, even UAE billionaires settle outside, like ppl mentioned above, it's pretty good for business, maybe set up your company there, get a bank account and move, they have 0% income tax.

Nice to hear. I enjoyed my visit there in 2017. I think I'll travel out there again for a month to help make a decision, I'll take the humid weather over the blistering cold here lol.

The rent in Dubai actually isn't that bad.

It's far worse in Lisbon.

You can get a really nice tower apartment in a great area in Dubai for $4.5k/mo

A nice 1-2 bedroom apartment for $1300-$2.2k/mo

In Lisbon you're looking at about $1300 to $3k for a nicei 1-2 bed, but what you get for the same money is FAR nicer in Dubai.

And what you get for $4.5k/mo is WAY better. To get that level of luxury in Lisbon you'd need to spend $10k/mo+

It's actually really reasonable for the level of luxury and the kind of views you get.

It's not cheap obviously, but it's not as bad as Lisbon, London and NYC.

Think and Grow Rich is an awful book. Napoleon Hill is a giant fraud. You're far better off reading a book on copywriting, CRO, email marketing or some other practical digital marketing related subject you can put into practice and make REAL $$ today. Everyone is too obsessed with self improvement, but the most successful guys just wake the fuck up, have a coffee and a shower, then work. Everything else is BS. All you need to do is realize that success comes from creating goals and focusing on tasks that move you closer to those goals. Nothing else. 99% of what people do doesn't move them towards their goals. It's just mental masturbation.
