I am trying to drive traffic to my blog by doing quality posting on forums. The problem is that in some forums i can put an anchor text signature only the link so in order for someone to visit my blog he has to copy-paste it in his browser. The result is that my posts don't convert into visitors. Is there any way to improve my signature by using a call to action or another method (not spammy looking)?

For example if i have the site "cars.com" should i put a signature like: please visit my blog "cars.com" or should i post a link in a specific popular post in my site or should i just i give an explanation of what value my blog offers?

What do you think would convert the most visitors? Any other ideas on how to use forum posting?

I think the best practice is to participate positively in forums and that'll ultimately help you to get traffic on your blog. Irrespective of what anchor text you display, if your contribution is impressive, You'll get a ton of clicks. Then Its upto your blog content either it can engage those people or not.

    Hope this helps. :)

This is just a theory that i believed too until i took action and tested it myself.

I have now posted 100 quality pots (almost like articles) providing high value and helping people in two similar forums and had the same signature. The difference in visitors is 4 times more (400%) on the forum with anchor text than the one with out it. Both forums had similar amount of views per post and every other factor i can think of is similar the only difference was the anchor text.

So i belive that just because it is "easier" for people to click on a link they will click and visit your site by 400% more than when they have to copy-paste your link into their browser bar and i need a way to overcome this obstacle because most forums on my niche don't allow "clicable links"

My advice is: Don't use "Visit my site cars.com". It's better to link to your most popular content. It's great to use long term keyword - good for your SEO and you will get the visitors attention, for example - "5 no cost ways to increase your car sell's price!"
    Hope this helps. :)

Blatant advertising usually deters visitors rather than attracting them so it's often a safer bet to just provide links.

Thanks kaloyan14, i was already doing that, i just needed some more ideas for split testing. I am currently doing some more experiments and nothing converts. I am probably missing something very important.

for me the best way to drive traffic to blog via signature is to use feedburner html rotator... This displays the latest posts...

I have done some more testing now and wrote a better signature with call to action where i ask people to visit my site. The result is that people feel the need to take all the time to thank me by using the forums thanking system (similar to BHW but takes more effort), PM me to thank me personally and even writing a reply to my post to thank me publicly for the help. They put all this effort and still don't visit my site (it's like they don't know how to copy-paste the link to their browser). This is all done at forums that don't allow a "clickable link" (anchor text).

Meanwhile in forums that allow anchor text signatures visitors convert like crazy even from low quality 1 sentence posts...

Post links works 100x as much as signature links.

I've made hundreds of dollars from a single post, (but a quality post at that), where I link to a blog post on my site or something similar.

But you really can't be spamming.

The best bet is writing a full blog post, or tutorial, and posting it to the forum with a few links to another one of your blog posts or some free ebook or something... and then converting the visitors after the jump.

It needs to be quality info, but if you put in the time, forum marketing works really well for finding high-quality traffic.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have done something similar. My version was to copy-paste a complete quality article from my blog over to the forum and put a link at the end of the article leading to my blog where the article source is so people can visit my site and hopefully get hooked with other quality content (like article marketing at sites similar to ezine). The problem is that i don't know if that is good for SEO (having completely identical articles from my blog all over the place in different forums) e.g. the keyword i am targeting could be #1 for the forum post and my blog post could not rank? I could be penalized for duplicate content? The forum could just ban me at the end for copy-pasting my blog content?

    Your version seems allot better.
Just to be sure about what you are suggesting: if i have the "cars.com" blog then i should create a new uniqe article just for the forum (or create one for my blog then copy-paste it on the forum?). That article could be "new exotic fast cars" and i should add links inside the article where they lead in other old articles in my site like "cars.com/the-new-lamborgini" or "cars.com/how-to-improve-the-speed-of-your-car" ?

Ok i have done some more testing and quality posts with links (like mozart suggested) convert about 6 times better than anchor text signatures and up to 60 times better than links with no anchor text!!!

    Thanked and rep given!

You could actually add some value on the forum. If you are actually knowledable about cars, there are plenty of topics to write about. If you really excel at a mini guide, people will want to visit your site to know more.

That would be one way to build long term legit traffic. As an added benefit, if there are other niche bloggers hanging out on that forum, you might have an opportunity to get a guest post and get even more traffic + backlinks. Other members on the forum are likely toh have friends with similar interest so you might end up going a bit viral too.

All posts where ultra quality, if you do anything less they will insta ban you. I have thought about the guest posting method but i am not sure if people are interested in that. Its not an internet marketing niche where everyone spends all their time doing articles and SEO. People are casual and 99% of them don't even know how to set up a blog. Still its a good idea! keep them coming!
