Dreams Vs Goals

Don’t have dreams, instead have goals.

Don't have hopes, have plans.

I notice from time to time threads on here where people just want to throw in the towel. Yes if it's not working and you have tried, then maybe it's time to get the 9-5 job and be employed.
Often though, these threads are from people who haven't gained instant riches after 4 weeks.

We all see the private jets, the private islands owned by billionaires. We can imagine that type of lifestyle too.

Be realistic though, unless you are a pioneer in software or product development these are just dreams. Selling $5 articles or $5 links will take a huge amount of time, effort and money to earn decent money.

Set yourself realistic targets, make these goals, not dreams.

So, deciding you want to turn over $1m this year is more achievable than doing $1b. Naturally, $120k is easier to achieve than $1m in your first year.

If you want that $150k car then don't just hope it's going to fall into your lap. make a plan and stick to it. Don't throw in the towel 6 weeks later as things don't work out straight away. Realistically you’re not going to start a new project from scratch and be a millionaire 2 weeks later.

Set your sights on workable goals.

Flights:

Don’t fly economy tell yourself you will fly premium economy. Then fly business class. Once you’ve done these, you’ll not want to fly coach/economy again. Hey if you want to experience first class and have the money to do so, then give it a try.

Car;

Instead of the old banger, get something second hand, just newer & more reliable.

Next is to look for a new car, even on a 3 year lease or lease purchase. Next goal is a better make or model or buying outright.

So if you like Audi; A3 Sedan then onto a RS 3 Sedan then the Q7 or RS 5 Coupe.

Remember too not just to look at turnover.

It's great to say you are making $10k a week, but how much is profit?

There's a great adage in business;

Turnover Is Vanity
Profit Is Sanity

Have a great weekend and if you're someone who is considering throwing it all in, hopefully this might help you decide one way or the other.
That is what i tell people who show big numbers how much is the profit not turnover. As turnovers might be big numbers but margin might be very low.

Who cares about the margins when you can hang a nice priceless plaque of "2 comma club" on your parents basement wall. I thought that's what everyone is striving for here, isn't it ?

@MisterF talks business ! This should be a podcast man.

Btw, I like to concentrate on ROI more than profit..

What do you recommend about investing?

Invest wisely irrespective of if it's financial investments such as savings / stocks, shares or bonds. If you want to speculate on markets, only do so with funds you can afford to lose.

If it's in equipment and infrastructure the same applies. Pay that little bit extra for tech support ( if you cannot negotiate it for free ).
Got 10 staff and expanding, don't go for office space for 15 when for a tiny bit more you could negotiate and rent somewhere for 30. Nothing worse than having to relocate 6 months down the line when you increase staff to 20.
Don't be afraid to shop around, get several quotes and then go back and negotiate on price once again.

My businesses are 99% offline, real brick & mortar businesses. This thread was to offer encouragement to those who don't think they can succeed, to offer inspiration to those who think everyone is making zillions via IM and they are failing.

As for being offered discounts ( as per the link to a  3 year old thread ), yes if I want to test something for the first time and am offered a discount, then I will take it. It makes pure financial sense.
When we are looking at conference venues often the hotels will comp us a night for us to visit and view.
Do you seriously think I am going to book a venue for 350 delegates to attend without visiting, without seeing how good the bedrooms are, without doing a food tasting session?
If you think people buy without taking up an offer of a discount/free trial, then they have either got more money than sense or they are plain stupid.
I get invited 3 or 4 times a year to conferences as a hosted buyer. This means a company will pay my transport costs to fly me to whichever country their event is being showcased, they put me up in a top hotel and I'm then 'looked after' for 3 or 4 days while I attend a conference for a day, a gala dinner and then have time to myself.
As yet I've never bothered with these freebies, due to clashes of dates or other commitments. But never say never.

Sellers who offer freebies / discounts will always get better sales, if their product is good. It's called brand awareness.

Hi MisterF,

I was wondering if you could share with me some knowledge about the transition from dreams to goals. I certainly have a lot of dreams, and I certainly do have a problem with the transition factor... Most of it is just some social-anxiety from my part which I'm working on it. But what can you say about character for example? How to be confident? How does a man truly learn how to achieve what a man really wants? Is it just experience? Really looking forward to your response!

:)

You can set yourself goals; It's down to you to achieve them, if they are realistic.

Dreams are just that.

There's a great answer to that here; https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/dreams-vs-goals.1095455/#post-11804559

I disagree. Some of my biggest clients have 50 plus staff, grown from 3 people without touching even touching their overdrafts

Most used business centres so they could avoid business rates etc, only spent on what was needed rather than what they wanted.

Government grants, enter awards and strut your stuff can perform way better than debt.

Employ people who are clever but lazy, they’ll always get a job quicker and often better than anyone aka use people to grow

Nice employment tip.

As for debt, it's not just my opinion, it's a fact that today the world runs on debt. Your client could likely develop a lot faster if they were in debt.

There isn't a single fortune 500 company that isn't leveraged somehow.

My country works like that for 30 years, and we are still at the bottom.

all you have to do is strive to reach your full potential, money is just a consequence of that. Your goals attaining chances are dependent on lot of outside factors which you can't do much about, but if you learn to keep yourself joyful in those situation and stay focused on the thing who knows you may surpass it more than you imagined or you dont even get to halfway who cares but important thing you stay cool in both situations. We come with nothing and go with nothing, whatever is happening you are on profit side anyway !

My dreams are often strange. Not so sure that I would want them as a reality. I had a dream a month ago where Putin came over and wanted me work for him in his secret organization.
I had to turn him down, but the cake was pretty tasty.

Another thing to remember is:
STICK TO THE END GOAL! DON'T BE CONTENT WHEN YOU ARRIVE AT HALF WAY OR HAVE A FIRST TASTE OF MONEY.

Don't have that poor person mentality like I used to...

At the beginning years ago when I started making like 4-5 thousand € a month with my agency I was just spending all my money at the Gucci store to feel better about myself and to impress people, not reinvesting or saving a cent.

I was so dumb that when my Macbook broke I didn't have enough money to repair it because I had spent all the money in clothes and shoes.

Now I'm cheap as hell

Imagine a BHW Podcast? Think it would be pretty sick.

I love the idea of a BHW podcast.

I am laughing so loud at this. I'm always afraid my Macbook Pro is going to clunk out right when my budget gets tight. It works just fine, but when it starts getting slow, gives me the spinning rainbow, and "start up disk is full" errors, I always get agitated and yell, "Hurry the F up!"

Then I realize all my work is on here and I immediately start saying things like, "No, I need you" and "This is a good computer" and "What would I do if you exploded right now?" and "I better pipe down". It brings me back to reality of how fortunate I am to be able to do this kind of work at all.

Can you also make a post on how to make smart decisions please?

BTC went from $6k to $19k, I didn't sell anything.
Now, I am thinking I will be wise with my decisions in the next bull run.
*sigh*

My goal is to make 6000-7000$ per month, reach 1 million, and live from interest !
Very easy goal !
