Hello,

So I'm fairly new to SEO, but I've done a fair bit of reading on it and given a few pages a try.

So I read a blackhat article about doorway pages that sounds a bit like a strategy that I'm getting ready to use on one of my websites. The article was informative, but both said that doorway pages were looked down upon by Google but also argued points that they were generally describing any page there's SEO complaint.

Let me run my scenario by you, and maybe some of you can tell me whether or not these would be flagged as doorway pages.

So I'm running an online e-commerce site. This site sells all different kinds of products. Generally speaking the SEO score of the individual pages and product pages don't get very high on some of the most searched terms.

About a year ago I built an individual page that linked into one of the categories that was geared towards a specific small keyword. This is a good page for users. I put custom content on that page relevant to the product that it was about and links that took you into the product category pages.

Fast forward one year, that page made it to number three on Google for the key word I was attacking. It's generating traffic and people are buying stuff. So logic tells me that I should replicate that result for other keywords on different products on the website, however that then technically falls under the description of a doorway page.

So I guess my question is, if I choose 1 key word for each category of products i stil (let's say 20-30) each pertaining to a completely different product in different categories of items, and made seo-friendly content rich pages for each of those that would provide links into associated product category pages, would that get it flagged by Google.

I fully realized that I can't just copy and paste the content exactly for every page and just change the key word. What is doing something like this effective?

Thanks
~Derrick

You could make your "doorway page" your product category page. Make it original and informative content people will click and google will like.
