Doordash is quite popular in the US and perhaps many other countries as they know how to market and generally their service is good.

I use them almost every Monday night as I travel on Monday nights and get my dinner delivered. It's costly but I don't drive so my options are to eat in the hotel restaurant where they essentially serve pub food, get a frozen meal that is sold in their little over prices store.

All that being said I saw this:

I had always thought that the driver got the fee or at least a part of it but they do not and only get paid from the tips.

Is that business model fair to the drivers?

Delivery fee goes to the driver if I am not mistaken. The driver is DoorDash through a contract.
 
Not sure the % but can confirm the base pay on any order is insultingly low no matter the distance. You are basically working for tips and trying to cherry pick the "good" orders.
 
They charge delivery fees up like crazy and that after they already gouge their prices.
 
Driver gets paid off tips. Without tips it’s like 2-3 dollars per order

It only works out for the driver if they live in a good area with restaurants in a close proximity and good gas mileage on car.

If it’s a rough area with a bunch of fast food chains not worth it.

i used to dash during covid. made friends with multiple drivers earning 300-600 every day. all the money is earned from tips & catering orders.
most of the drivers moved on as after covid blew over, people stopped tipping big.
idk how it is now, but back then you got base pay per delivery 2.50-3.50. around 6.50 base if it was 15miles+ drive. and the full tip amount. all those other fee's go straight to doordash coffers.

doordash inc has been operating at a loss every year.
 
lol, imagine you had CPA page that didn't make you any money apart from a hope that someone would click on the donation button too! :D
 
of course it's not fair to the workers. most these gig jobs/biz are exploitative. they push costs off onto workers while paying them little and make them rely on tips. tips, which is a whole different exploitative rant i could go on.

if a biz cannot pay workers properly and instead has them gamble on the generosity of the public to earn then that business deserve to be no more i reckon.

In the USA, wait staff gets paid a very minimal wage per hour and make 98% of their money from tips.

It is not unlike a company that pays a bonus based on production.
