Don't waste your time on Facebook

Every one is entitled to his or her opinion.

Majority of all the big companies always have a way of making the little customer pay more for less.

A good service provider would not only care about how to tweak it's site to make money but how to provide
real value to it's end users.

So the conclusion is that we are done with Facebook and can't expect free traffic. If we want conversion then we just need to pay for advertising. Well, makes sense if we are looking from the perspective of a business. It takes money to make more money.

Hey I had several huge reach drops after they started introducing the new Facebook layout. Well apparently a guy knowing another one working at Facebook told me they are having issues with updates of settings & algorithms. By the end of July it all should be fixed but whatever I lost hope! Now I literally stopped posting and I'll wait until the reach is normal again.
My question is why are some pages not affected ? If they are having server issues everyone should be affected ?

That leads me to a conclusion that they are forcing everyone to buy ads who is not giving money to Facebook!

Its much more than curtailing the reach of Fan Pages,they are trying to disorient internet marketers and get priority edge over Facebook Ads.

That's just a certain feature and minor section of people affected from it. Out of the 1000 people it is just 1-2 admins at maximum of pages that are affected. And FB was never meant for those 1-2 guys. Rather it's for the other 998 guys and advertisers, and that is what Facebook would concentrate on. And it's running as solid as ever for them.

Also, you say facebook is dying out, it is really hard to have it near future, with the recent integeration of Whatsapp in Facebook, it just played the master move. It can anytime link both of them and voila you will have a new kind of facebook.

Facebook is doing to social networking what Google did to the WWW.

In Google's case it's much much worse: they have monetized the entire WWW and count and control clicks. Google does everything Matt Cutts tells YOU not to do. They have millions of affiliate links hidden in their SERPs, they scrape data and present it as their own stealing traffic from honest webmasters(hello Wikipedia?), they have ads at least 50% above the fold(you try and do that)....and they DO give special treatment to big adwords spenders(hi Ebay, how's your penalty going). It's just nefarious, and authorities won't do anything about it. Google is destroying the once libre WWW and they control what gets seen and what doesn't.

Facebook has always been a closed platform, built and invented by Facebook, their infrastructure was build by Facebook staff, their software is made by Facebook and so on.

Google, on the other hand, took the once free/libre WWW and completely commercialized every action, every link, every public asset as their own! It's a landgrab. Google got the WWW for free and now controls links and even dictates content guidelines, telling you how to link to other sites, how to write and place your content and so on.

If you saw how Google developed into what it is today, you would totally expect Facebook to limit the organic page reach. Google is doing the exact same thing with websites on the once-organic WWW.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but aren't their customers the normal users of Facebook, not us spammers? I think they gained a lot of quality by doing what they did with their algorithm. No matter what we all feel about this. I for instance practically lost a 102 K page because my reach went so low that I can't monetize it enough to afford paying for my electricity bill.

Big companies are same like small companies and every single one of us, they want to make money, they do not want tens of thousands IMers making money they could have been making. Facebook, google..all big guys will always fight us small guys, because together we make extreme amounts of money which could end in their pockets, so I do not expect facebook will change their minds. It sucks i have like 800K fans on my pages and its getting useless, but in this business you have to be flexible, because its constantly changing so its time to put effort in something else. Maybe apps?

In my opinion, this is the perfect opportunity for other social media sites to steal the attention of small business owners and marketers. Wrong. Advertisers and potential advertisers are the customers - personal users are the product that Facebook sells to advertisers, their customers. If I was allowed to grow slowly organically, like I had been, I could much more easily be persuaded to dive in deeper and supplement my reach with some sponsored posts, which I have done in the past.

This is true to a point, but like I was saying to somebody else, it's easier to turn a current user into a paid advertiser than it is to get somebody to jump in cold and take out their wallet. Similar to Google, you get a taste of what the free exposure can do for you, assuming that your business is sound, and then you get an idea of how much you could expand by adding paid exposure to your arsenal.

Plus, filtering out non-paying marketers and businesses from personal users' feeds because they didn't pay for the exposure is limiting how genuine the material is that users see on a regular basis. For example, I'm sure Google would love to fill the whole first page for every keyword with paid search results, however, they're smart enough to know that paid ads are certainly not always going to deliver their users (searchers) the best, most genuine material. This would leave an opening for another search engine to take over with more useful, genuine search results, much like the opening that Facebook is currently making for other social media sites to steal the attention of small to medium sized advertisers by the millions.

You are a customer if you are paying. Making a page does not make you a customer. So how is he wrong? You have already stated you are not prepared to pay Facebook, so you are not even a potential customer.

I didn't say anywhere that I wasn't willing to pay, I said I wasn't willing to pay for organic exposure that should be free. I have paid for sponsored posts in the past to get extra exposure and it worked like a charm, which I was more than willing to continue to do because it was a fair deal. I'm not, however, willing to pay to get fucked by Facebook.

I was saying he was wrong to not include potential advertisers as customers too. A potential customer is important to a proper business model, but Facebook is so big they're just saying fuck it and stomping a lot of potential advertising dollars into the ground because they aren't willing to give advertisers a taste of exposure for free like every other social media site does. Making a page doesn't make you a currently paying advertiser, but it's a strong indicator that you have the potential to be a paying advertiser in the future.

The reason why I have never really bothered with Facebook, YouTube, Twitter or anything third party, because it is not actually yours. You can put so much effort into something which can be taken away, or changed in an instant. I learnt this a long time ago when I used to sell on eBay, things can change quickly and you have no control.

Since when does "unless you're willing to pay for it" equal out to meaning I'm not willing to pay for extra exposure on top of the free organic exposure I used to get? I was referring to organic exposure dude, take your head out of your ass. I was making a thread to help out people who might not know this information and would therefore be wasting their valuable time trying to build a following on Facebook under the assumption that these likes will still have organic value like they previously had.
