All of us in business deal with customers that make you want to jump off a bridge. These clients are the ones that make you want to go back to working that mindless landscaping job you had in junior high school. For whatever reason some people just don't get it. It's like their brains never developed the kind of self awareness, which you ask yourself questions like....am I acting like a douchebag?

Here is my checklist for those of you who just don't seem to get it. And there are plenty of you guys just in this forum. If any of these pertain to you, YOU ARE THAT GUY>>>

    - Don't tell me how much loot you make and then give me every excuse in the book why you can't pay me today.

    - Don't tell me about your new fishing boat, and mansion, and then try to negotiate a $50 price break. It is what it is, take it or leave it.

    - Don't ask me to help you do something that I charge for.

    - Don't get me on a 2 hour conference call about a project, agree to do it, and then never call me. Conference calls come after I see your money in my bank account.

    - Don't tell me you want one thing and then after I quote you and start the work ask for a completely different thing

    - Don't ask me if I am an expert at something right after you just got off of my website which talks about me being an expert.

    - Don't be cheap. Good shit cost money. If you are a cheap ass, you are going to get cheap ass shit. Running a business is expensive. If you are not willing to spend the money to make it, you need to keep your shit ass day job. Man, I could go on and on about this one. People with no money are ALWAYS the ones that want the most, complain the most, and expect the most.

    - Don't call me repeatedly. Call once and leave a message. If I call you back it means I either like you or your money. If I think you are annoying, you will simply get an email back.

    - Don't make a 10 minute conversation out of something that can be explained in one or two sentences. I am a busy guy. Nothing annoys me more than long winded people. If you want to talk about non sense, head down to the nearest nursing home. There are lots of people there that will listen to you.

    - Please don't try to tell me how to do my job. I do this all day. If I was bad at it, I wouldn't be making any money.

    - If you chargeback something that was delivered to you, and there was nothing wrong with it...YOU ARE A DOUCHEBAG. People like you make the world a worse place. The worst are idiots that do chargebacks for shit that cost $39.99. WTF???

    - Please do not call my business at 1 am. Did you really think I was going to answer. Come on use your brain numb nuts.

Feel free to ad to the list .

    I have an addition:

    - Do not take up an entire screen with egotistical rants and expect people to read the whole worthless page.

This thread is worthless, hell lot better to hear the customers rant then to hear someone rant because he/she is not capable of handling his work. Learn your work and deal with it, this thread has no psychological face to it. Do not generalize.

Sadly the people that need to read this the most are not going to. I hope you didn't get into offering services expecting unicorn hairs and sunshine. It's just a part of customer service, IMO.

It sounds like your venting but

    - If you order one of my services for $125, don't expect me to roll out the red carpet for you. I am sorry but Joe Blow who pays me $5K a month IS more important than you.

    I cringe at this statement.

Yes this is very true, but it is always good to open some kind of discussions about the dos and don'ts of being a good client.

I agree though. Nothing will change.

To sum it up, TIME IS MONEY. Everything you do has to be worth your time. It's that simple. You're not going to be able to please everyone and you shouldn't try. If you think that's egotistical you need to reexamine your life and your goals. To get to them you'll find you need to weed out people like this.

This post is worthless. Probably one of the worst ones I've read. If anything, it almost makes you look like an asshole. If I was ever going to order from you I may look back at this thread and think twice. Why? Not because I do any of these things, but because of the hugely self-centered way you look at business. Many of the things you listed make it very clear you're more concerned about how much money you can make yourself than you are with a customer being happy with a service or product you provide.

Posting a big rant like this doesn't excuse any lack of business morals you might have.

I am actually not trying to be egotistical, and I really did not want to come off that way. Everyone that has dealt with me here on this forum, knows I am not an egotistical person, and helped many people here.

I was simply trying (maybe a bit harsh), to open a discussion (in a round about way), of what makes a bad client. Any of us who run a successful businesse deal with these types of clients on a regular basis.

See for me, I guess I am lucky, because with my experience, not only have I learned to spot problem customers, but I also have the luxury to pick and choose who I want to deal with. Some businesses can't afford to do this.

The businesses I run, are not conventional brick and mortar businesses though, and the customer service for a product driven site, is a lot of times very different from that of a service orientated site. So every situation is handled differently. If I didn't understand this dynamic, I would not be successful.

Fact of the matter is, like NewWayInvest said, time is money. Bad clients cost more money. Simple as that. And sometimes knowing how to spot them, will actually make you money in the long run.

Again, sorry if I sounded like a dick. Didn't mean to come off like that.

In my opinion, this would have been 10 times better as the original post :)

I do agree with a lot of what you had to say, but some points were too harsh as I'm sure you know already

Product-driven businesses -whether brick-and-mortar or online - have their own form of bad "customers" - customers in quotes because they end up costing the store money, and are therefore not REAL customers. They're actually LEECHES better off sent to the competition!

It amazes me that anyone is surprised that businesses, like forums, need to use a banhammer to keep things running smoothly!

Don't feel bad about your OP. The ones who are pissed at it are exactly the ones you'd be glad not to deal with anyway! "Prevention is the best medicine" and if you've prevented some jerks from eating up your time and profits...it's a win.

I agree with this post 100%. However, your original post shows your attitude and makes me cringe at the thought of doing business with you (whether or not I am one of those customers).

I own and run my own brick and mortar store and everything you have said is correct about bad "customers." I too am lucky to be in the position to sort of "pick and choose" who I do business with, and most of the time I can spot bad customers by just looking at their face.

However, I also do alot of business with the other businesses in my area. I buy/sell gold & silver, coins, scrap, bullion, etc., and if I had displayed that kind of attitude I would be out of business faster than you can say "that guy is an asshole."

Don't get me wrong, some of the things I agree with - I just would never say it out loud. I treat everybody as equals and expect to be treated the same, especially with someone who I bring my business to
