Domain with 40k traffic for $1.2K? How is this possible?

I was looking on various platforms to buy websites and/or domains that have existing traffic.

I was looking at Sedo and found a lot of great domains with traffic at cheap prices. For example, the domain name from a legit website about the game Fallout with 40K Ahrefs traffic and 50K pages in SERP for just $1200. How is this possible? Does anyone have more experience with Sedo?

Also, what do you get if you buy such domains? I suppose you only get the domain name and no existing website content, right?

The same question applies for Godaddy - if you buy a domain through their "buy now" section, and there is a live website on the domain, do you get access to the content too or just the domain name?

Thank you!

You think those numbers are real? If they were getting that much traffic on that domain, they will probably redirect it to some gaming affiliate networks and make good money. Just be careful with such domains and sites. I generally pay for the links of domain and its history as site.

The domain might have got a penalty recently and this you will get very less traffic now.

those domains which you see on sedo with lets say a lot of traffic been used just to funnel that traffic, thats why sedo thinks the traffic been on that domain. a lot of them been used by advertising networks or file sharing sites.

Thank you for all the feedback.

I'm definetly skeptical. Some domains have a recent traffic spike and that's most likely not organic.

For this specific one is not showing up in Ahrefs but that is a possibility.

I'll keep that in mind, thank you.

If that traffic were organic and sustainable, they'd ask for way more money.
