Domain registration and web hosting issues.

Hi I hope this is the right place. I have a domain and hosting provided with a provider who had all access to the Cpanel. My hosting expired but my domain is still active. Now I need a new hosting plan and dont want to continue with the provider. However the provider does not want to release access login details to the domains so that the new provider can point the names servers to.
Whats even worse, the recovery emails after doing an WHOIS point to the same domain whose hosting has expired meaning that it will be difficult to reset as I cant receive any of the emails as they point to the expired hosting plans.
Could anyone kindly tell me a work around while keeping my domain as I have had very bad experience with my old hosting and dont plan to continue with the old hosts. Thanks

N.B This also should serve as a lesson to those who are new to the domain registration and hosting as they may also fall for the same bait.

I seriously doubt that the company you registered the domain with is actually the domain registrar - more like a reseller of some bigger company. If the "Registrant" in WHOIS shows your name, try contacting the big registrar and ask them what can be done to regain control of the domain. Explain your situation to them, and I'm sure they'll help you.

Which hosting are you using?

You're dealing with a middle man, contact the actual registrar and have them transfer the domain to a new company.

I'd personally recommend name cheap for domain registration and hostgator for hosting.

NEVER get a domain with your hosting provider.

They would use it to make you stay on their crap hosting services.

I just lowered all of the products in my reseller account to the absolute lowest. It uses godaddy support, and the renewal rate doesn't go up. At least check it out and let me know what you think discount-domains.org
