Domain Names - The truth.

Just thought I would add. Here is a host for $10 a yr. has c-panel and 1000MB space with unlimited bandwidth transfer. 1 year web host. I am using them and have to admit the uptime is not 99.9% don't know the percentage but it is generally pretty fast and up.

I posted this earlier today. It's a host I forgot all about and it comes with two free domains. $10 for a year of hosting and you can host unlimited websites
Code:
http://netfirms.com/max
. They have humongous disk space and bandwidth. I got the hosting from them and the two domains, I setup a quick site and forgot I even had hosting with them. I only remembered when they sent me an email about the full price renewal after a year.

About the host, it's possible the emails didn't show up. I know I have this problem sometimes. Either the emails will never show up when someone sends them to me or when I send them to someone the email doesn't get to them. I don't have any spam blockers setup either, it's on my own server. Of course they could be lying.

For $5 a year don't expect much, just pray they stay alive long enough for you to get one year of hosting out of them. When I use to do hosting I use to tell everyone always keep backups of everything. If it's something important to you back it up or save a copy on your computer after you upload it. If it's a two minute generated site keep the configuration files and any template changes at the very least because you can bring your site back up later if the host goes down. Try it out once you get your details and decide for yourself. $5 is a very small price to pay and hopefully your site will last the whole year there.

If you need to check your uptime you can use something like
Code:
http://host-tracker.com/
it pings your site every 30 minutes for free. There is another site that I use to use that will ping your site like every minute that's free, but I can't think of the URL right now (I use it for my main server and it hasn't been down in a while, I don't get emails from them unless my server goes down).

The thing is I don't wanna pay full price after a yr. I was going to attempt my first wordpress blog. I have always used blogger. But I got this neat little program called adsense inbox. It's one of those things like set it and forget it type deals using wordpress. I got the details of the host I got for $5 but hesitate cause of their regular price after a yr. is up. I am kinda thinking about just chalking up the $5 doll. to a loss and forget all about it and move on to something else.

You already paid. Might as well use it. After one year you take your files and switch hosts. I do it whenever there is a super deal. Dreamhost also had a similar one year deal, after my year expired I packed up and switched hosts. It's very easy to backup your files and just re-install somewhere else.

yeah that's true. I never save my files. Ran out of room on my puter, most of my sites are what u guys call scraper sites? The new host would be for a blog, wouldn't those files be a pain to move since tech. someone could post at the last min. or prior to moveing them?

Here is a brandnew one which has some awesome deals. I guess up till 1-05-08 they were giveing away a yr. of free hosting. they just launched 1-1-08 and are very hungry for new customers. cergo hosting.
