Domain Names - The truth.

On the note of subdomains, I think using Blogspot as an example is not very fair... as seeing Google owns Blogspot and chances are it might be an exception to the rule... From my personal experience, subdomains certainly are not as good as real domains, and didn't Matt Cutt said something recently about only reducing the number of subdomains that can be listed on results to 2? Or somethinglike that...

Yes WoahHell, I had simillar experience... Sumdomains are not as good as real domains.
There was trick long time ago when we created for each keyword separate subdomain, just to get more traffic... We had like millions on subdomains, well it was not like that.

Back linking is most important.

They say that linking to a site with PR 0 will hurt your site. Is it true?

They say that linking to a site with PR 0 will hurt your site. Is it true?

No, If that were true people could put up PR 0 sites with links to you. You can't controll who links to you. A PR 0 will just not boost your PR or give you as much link juice as a +PR site will.

Hey, hows it going?
I am building adsense sites, would you recomend paid or free hosting? Free hosting without banners, ads, or pop ups. I have always used paid hosting but this thread has me thinking. Recently I maxed out my paid server space. So I need to seek new hosting for further progress, and the free host don't necessarily look bad. Get mult links from sep ip servers. But many times the free host can crash or give poor service??
thanks,

hey wombat good info, it would most definately be the most important post of my life except for the fact that i found this out yesterday. but rep anyway.

Tip of the day: Go to ebay. Look for that $1 hosting for a year. Put sites on all different hosts and have them all link to each other. When the host crashes and burns in a few months like most of the ebay hosts do at least you got your money's worth and you have your sites located on tons of different servers.

Or of course go to
Code:
http://freewebspace.net
and look for free hosts with no requirements or little requirements.

Personally I prefer the cheap ebay hosting because I don't have to jump through hoops to have my account start and you get tons of space in case you need it.

thanks for the tip of the day. That's kinda how I was looking at it. Why keep throwing money at domains and host. Just get free host and interlink em. Use a program to generate sites and spread aout over diff. IP server add. If one drops off just keep building up.

I like freewebspace because you have tons of rookie hosts and can get away with pretty much everything until they bankrupt themselves when they figure out they are losing money giving away ad-free free hosting.

So from your experience the free host esp. the ones with no ads or pop ups are doomed from the get go? So the trick would be to throw up adsense sites and go on to the next and so on cause sooner or later they will start getting dropped. At least doing it this way one would save on hosting fees and not really worry about PR or getting de indexed by google. Just target long tail keywords and phrases for higher seo. Plus with the sites interlinking I would think sooner or later that would actually boost PR from the host that hang in the longest. Or do you feel paid host would be the best way to go??

By the way correction on the link above. You actually want to go to their forum not their directory
Code:
http://freewebspace.net/forums/
.

I go for the paid hosting because there is usually more space/bandwidth and their are no requirements whether it's posting, text links, their ads on my site or whatever else might be involved. I go with ebay hosting because it's super cheap if the host dies I don't care because I still own the domain and can just point it somewhere else and they have no clauses where I have to post or put their ads on my sites.

Ok a free host that has no ads, no pop ups and no posting. How do they make money to pay for their server? See what I mean it's a super poor business plan. A lot of the new free hosts out there are teenagers with no jobs that think they are going to get rich from adsense while maintaining a server for everyone. Then they have no money coming in and they have to shut down. You could sign up for one of these sites today and tomorrow morning all of your hard work is gone.

Basically ebay hosts that sell a year of hosting for $1 and free hosts that have no ads or requirements are all just companies asking to be abused. They are both shitty hosting environments but sometimes you get lucky with the ebay hosts. I bought a reseller hosting account on ebay for $10 for one year and that thing lasted a complete year and it was one of the highest quality hosting accounts I ever had (the company stopped selling on ebay after they sold me that package because they realized ebay wasn't worth it). I've also bought hosting accounts on ebay for $1 that have lasted several months. Usually I just buy these accounts use them for a while and abandon them.

It's up to you what you choose to do. Both ways are pretty much the same strategy go for the long tail but it sucks when you have a humonguous site on a free host and all of a sudden the site dies a week later. Usually the ebay hosts are good for a few months all the way to the whole year.

Well domain names do make some difference ...

Simply put if you have a domain name that people might
type in like drugstore well .com is worth tons more then any .net ...

Yeah I have always looked at the way you do vze2yqtm as far as the benefits of paid hosting. I have several sites all on paid host but do not have nearly enogh sites up to make the money I want so I was thinking some freebies for link juice and added sites might give me a boost.

It's really up to you. The cost is negligible. For an ebay host wait after 30 days and under 59 days to give your feedback. You can't really give a host feedback after setup because hosting doesn't work that way. Wait as long as you can for feedback.

I did a quick search and here are some decent offers I found in case you decide to go the paid route:

(When I write unlimited that's what they're claiming there is no such thing as unlimited hosting, might as well push the limits if you can.)

If you don't want to spend the money it's up to you. There are tons of free hosts that can get done what you want. I suggest going to the forum I mentioned above for maximum specs and minimum requirements.

Stop thinking like pussy little white hats. Have a look at what the big boys do.
Do a search for "buy viagra" or similar to see some real black hat tricks.

Our viagra spammer will get a page on a free web host or an .edu site and put a cheap and nasty javascript redirect to a viagra sales site where he is an affiliate.

Then he spams the heck out of that page with Xrumer and other programs to get 1000 backlinks. 10,000. 100,000.

I don't suppose that page lasts very long but it must be worth their while to do it. Then they make another.

If you want to make a "made for adsense" scraper site Google will hunt you down and ban or sandbox you within weeks.

A free subdomain on a free host will actually last longer and you aren't out the cost of a domain name and hosting.

Here is another trick. You want to make a crappy Adsense site but you are worried that the owners of the blogs and forums you spammed are going to come gunning for you.

Our smart black hat will spam those sites with a link to his "free" web page.

The really ticked off webmasters will go to that page only to see a page that says "This site has been removed for breaking our terms of service"

They think "serves him right", delete the spam post and forget about it.

Ha, ha! Our smart black hat put that page there himself because he KNEW some people will get ticked off.

He also knew that many of his spam posts would stick and remain as backlinks. 80% of them at least.

So, a week after his "mega-spam" he changes the "banned" page back to an adsense site or a redirect to an affiliate sales page.

This very black hat secret is worth $79 at 3 am. Hell, it is worth $179.
So if you want any more gems of wisdom gimmee some more rep. :)

Frankly I am bored with being an "outsider" here. I am used to better. If I haven't proven my credentials by now then to heck with you.

(Seriously, mods. If there is an "insiders" group then I want in. Unless you are willing to bet that there is nothing I know that you don't)

This post is a far as I will go in blabbing "secrets" on the open web and that was probably too far.

It is up to you now. Seriously. I'm in or I'm gone.

WoW thanks bro. Some great finds vze2yqtm. Will deff sign up for some of them.

Thanks for the insider secret tips wombat. I tried to give more rep but it wont allow me to untill I send +Rep to another memer first. So I will give some to vze2yqtm and you. Great tips guys. Thanks

very nice thread.. thanks.. u definitely get a rep from me :)

Hey vze2yqtm you were correct the forum on that freeweb site you gave me really has tons of info on hosting and free host. I found some free ones that would prob. meet my needs, except for fear that they will be out of buss soon. Ok here is the delema, I purchased a yr. package for $5. and had to argue and file a complaint with paypal to get my hosting info. They stated emails were sent to me with the info. that I am just difficult. I do not have spam filters on and see no signs of their emails after 3 days. This has left me nervous about their service, also I noticed that their normal rales are outrageous. They are prob. betting after a yr. I will stay with them at regular rates. Their rates for the package I got are like $20 a month. I use a paid server on one site for $10 a yr. Less bandwidth and storage and their uptime is not 99.9% but for $10 a yr. I don't complain.
So my question is you guys think I should proceed with the host I have paid $5 a yr. for. with the idea that after a yr. their rates are unacceptable plus with the rough start we had. Or do you think I should just write off the $5 and move on, or put up a different smaller site that dont really matter much??
