Domain Name & Hosting from Seperate companies

I heard someone talking that you should buy domain name & hosting from separate companies.


1) What is your take on this?

2) And if domain company screws you, what happens to your website?

Highly recommended, basically akin to not putting all your chickens in one basket. Use a reputable and/or bh-friendly registrar for name management (e.g. don't screw around trying to save pennies by using crap like 1&1). The higher the risk/likelihood of infractions, the higher the level of bh-ness you want in your registrar.

Highly recommend it. Your domain is your identity. Tomorrow if your hosts kick you out for some bh or even if sm competitor reported you, you'll loose ur domain too.
You'll have to start from scratch and rebuild your whole identity/brand again.
On the other hand if you still have your domain and site backup, just but another hosting, upload files and continue. The max will be a few hours of downtime for your business.

yep I would put my domains with another company. Namecheap is who i use for domain names.

I purchased the domains from Godaddy and host all the sites on the Hostgator!
