Domain name advice!

I know it is very important to have the domain name url include your keywords. I recently found out that you could include a "-" in the url, which makes me feel like i wasted my money on the domain i bought :(

For the sake of preserving my niche, I will give a hypothetical example. Which of these domains would be a better choice?:

xbox1giveaway.net

OR

xbox-onegiveaway.com

OR

freeexboxone.com (note the extra e in free)

I know .coms are the best, but does the "-" hurt in the long run or no? Furthermore, will the extra e in free affect SERPS etc?

The dash usually makes it not an EMD. It's not EXACT.

However, it will still have a good amount of value if it's keyword relevant.


EMD's do NOT carry the same that they did a few years ago.

There are a ton of threads on this subject, specifically with your concern.
 
Recently google has devalued domains with hyphen. I won't recommend it. In my churn and burn test, hypenated domain ranked lower than non-hypenated domain. Same niche, small site with similar content.

Not as important as it used to be, so no need to get overly attached with getting the EMD. Sure it still helps, but nothing one couldn't overcome with little work.

I wouldn't use hyphens, but not exactly because of SE's devaluing them, but more because they always look spammy as hell. Although considering you're most likely creating spammy website altogether...

Same goes for adding extra letters that just make the domain look retarded.
 
Hyphenated domains are not devalued in anyway by Google or any other search engine. As a full time domainer for many years, I deal with end users everyday and know for a fact that the same domain with a hyphen can outrank the same one without that hyphen. They tend to have less reselling value (in terms of name (domain)) itself but has no impact whatsoever in the SEO value it could get.
