@OP : it doesn't matter at all in eyes of google.
@Nargil : Tlds matters a lot in targeting specific country. Of course you don't get traffic from one country exclusively, but you will take a huge boost in the country you are targeting. Specially for keywords related to specific country like e-commerce.
Anyway, it's the strongest metric when targeting specific country. However, you will get
traffic from everywhere else unlike
@seoes said.
Now, as for hosting, it's very weak metric, it's there but very weak. So, .de domain with English content and US hosting will rank pretty good in
Google Germany for
English keywords and will face hard time ranking in google US for the same keywords. Unless the competition is really weak and he is the only one covering the Niche.
This is why all top brands use different domains ( although all the costs and the hustle of managing multiple domains ) when they are targetting different countries. Retailmenot is a pretty good example. Although, they are targetting exact same keywords (amazon coupons, kohl's coupons, adidas coupons..etc) they have different tld for every country cuz SEO is the only important element when targetting coupon keywords. And guess who owns Retailmenot... Yup,
Google Does
. So, it's an amazing website to tell the difference between what works and other BS****
