I just couldnt find enough information on this so why not discuss it a bit further to see what others are experiencing? I am about to get a .me domain extension which really does sound good with the name that I will also get.

I am just worried about SEO as I still think google gives priority to .com, .net and org before any other (I could be wrong).

I can’t really see why google would give priority to a domain based on its extension. What would be the logic behind that?

I think it’s more the case that most big companies will tend to use a .com and as such they appear to be dominant in the serps.

I recall reading case study on bhw 2 years ago where guy bought 10 various domain extensions (com net org biz info etc) and did seo on all of them. At the end of the length of time he deduced there was zero impact on extension choice.

Maybe will not affect SEO direclty but .me looks a bit spammy so it could affect the user experience which is also a SEO factor

Isn't it common-belief that TLD's providing increased ranking potential compared to non-TLD's? I was always, and still am, under the impression that a TLD carries much more weight compared to other extensions such as ".me", ".today", or ".shop" (just to name a few).

However, I have seen some members achieve solid rankings with ".reviews" and ".io" extensions but overall I believe .Com, .Net, and .Org are ideally suited for those wanting to establish a brand.

Previously, it does matter when you have an EMD that is a .com, and priority would be provided to your site for that particular keyword - but it has since been tweaked, and EMDs are now worthless, thus, any new domain extensions behave the same at the global scale - they are all new sites, and you will need to build authority and user engagement over time, to fully establish the site in the search engine's aspect.
Nevertheless, modern day SEO has a catch - if you register an EMD that has a country level domain, eg, co.uk, .de, .co.tw, apparently, these are favored by the local search engine, when a local IP is used for the search for that local keyword.
Depending on your end goal, if local SEO traffic is what you are looking for, then you may add that to your consideration as well.

Domain extensions does not matter for ranking. But if we get backlink from .edu and .gov sites it is very good for our website.

There are some thousands of TLD(TOP LEVEL DOMAINS).
.com, .net, .org and few other domains have high value because they are globally accessible and they commercial value.
It doesn't mean that other TLD have no value.
You can select DOMAIN EXTENSION based on your business, if you want to go globally its good to go with .com or .org.
And if your business is limited to only one country or to limited niche you can opt other TLD like .cn, .in, .fun.

as long as it is not a cctld extension doesn't really matter for ranking

I see to see lots of EMDs ranking well lately, with no .com extensions... product.reviews, productname.guide etc

In theory TLDs don't matter for SEO, unless you want to target a specific country, then get that country extension. However, I still prefer .com .net .org if it's available, cause seems they still get more authority in the eyes of visitors, and therefore I have a feeling to get better rankings with them.
