We know that nowadays google places value on the QUALITY of the domain that is linking to the main page. I have been wondering how web 2.0 would work because they are generally new and have way worse DA than the main site. Most of them have 0 DA. And if we do tiered link building its again 0 DA web 2.0s linking to low DA web 2.0s. Doesn't make any sense how that will transfer authority to our main site.
And this process will be Grey or Black Hat right?

Depends on what you think of as a Web 2.0, but Tumblr , Blogspot etc have a higher DA than most websites.

Isn't it more about the type of link and context? Like a link from a new tumblr blog might have far less effect than a reputable Tumblr blog.
Similarly a link from a FB page might have way less effect than a Editorial link from a niche-relevant blog even with a DA of 35.

Which is why aged ones are the better option but also mix in new ones. The DA will be the same, but the PA will be obviously lower on a new profile.

Since I'm working with web 2.0s at the moment, I can tell you that they really do work. The trick is in quality content placed on higher DA platforms or use aged ones for higher PA which is always cool. I rely on quality blog to minimize chance of no indexing. From time to time I even pop some backlink towards blogs and WHOLAAA they work like charm. <3

Cheers!

So I will have to buy some aged niche relevant Web 2.0s and use them? Kind of like buying a website?

** Sorry! I meant PA not DA.

Single article based web 2.0s are crap and wont work.

Thats what i figured. So what should be the strategy?
I got web 2.0s with full dedicated fake author page with some ads, make them look like a legit blogger posting content weekly. Doing this for main money site only though. Just my thing.

Web 2.0 backlinks are good and cheap. It can also give a boost to your website's SEO.

start creating lots of web 2.0 accounts BUT do not create backlinks to your money site. keep adding posts relevant to your niche and let them age, then after few months start using them on your money site. you will be amazed. key here is that you need to be building a web 2.0 that is relevant to your money site. google wants links from sites with relevant content.

https://www.blackhatworld.com/seo/john-mueller-impact-of-social-bookmarking-on-links.1125574/ according to john mueller:
"A page with inbound links relevant for Topic A, will make that page relevant for Topic A. But if your page is about Topic Z, that link is probably not going to be useful to you in terms obtaining a ranking benefit.

A web page does not inherit authority, it only inherits links and those links only matter when they are also relevant.

So obtaining links from social media or social bookmarking sites does not confer any particular benefit because they are inherently irrelevant and any inbound links are also irrelevant.

That journal explains a lot. I have always been sceptical about social bookmarking and always thought of it like spamming. Google is smart, its a joke some people think authority can be taken from big sites like that.
