i want to buy a new domain with high metrics and transfer my site to it.

does it matter what the domain is anymore? for example, if my site is a bicycle review site, but the domain name is johnsblog.com is this fine? i ask because it is hard to find domain names with my niche word in it.

For reasons of wanting something memorable for human visitors, I would definitely choose something more obvious than that. It's a branding thing.

The number had nothing to do with anything, but really at least the main keyword and a branded idea is what you need. It would be an uphill struggle for "johnsblog" to get a decent clickthrough from people seraching for "bike reviews"
 
i found a domain that was a first and last name, like johnsmith.com

could that work? and i could title the page John's Bike Reviews.

My comment was a joke. However, yes it will work. It would be the same as any other brand name. However you do not want to make it look ridiculous. For example playchessonline.com, and you are selling blow up dolls. A persons name does not really look too bad to sell anything. Take John Lewis for example, they sell clothes. It is all about getting a brand out there.

Domain always add extra value for a site. Niche Domain is always Great for all.

so it is good then? because i found two good domain names that would work. one is a first and last name. the other is two names like gregandharry.com. i could make the site Greg and Harry's Bike Reviews.
 
Try it and see buddy, that's the only way you'll know for sure. you still have loads of hurdles to jump after this one anyway.

EMD and PMD are quite outdated these days. Nowadays brandable sounding domains are better.

Are you actually using EMDs PMDs? Or are you just repeating the hear say "seo guru" shite?

Because to be honest, give me an EMD over anything. Especially for churn and burn.

i am not looking to start a site with a brand new domain. that is easy. i wanted to start the site with a domain that has some good metrics and authority. With DA, PA, CF and TF all over 15 so that I can get a good bump off the start.

I have found many expired domains that have people's names in them. Finding a good metric domain with my keyword is tough. Most have been spammed already or the cost is too high. So i thought using a personal name or something generic would work. My theory is that people search for a term in Google, but don't really look at the URL field. They just look a the meta title and description. So, once they are on the site if they do look at URL box, and it says GregandDave.com but he site is Greg and Dave's Bike Reviews, it would relate.

So, i have a high metric domain with relevancy in the visitor's eyes.
 
It's not the domain name that matters but its niche.
 
i think that exact match domains are still relevant, so yes they still have some value
