Someone charged back my stripe for 10k. Is stripe going to go after me? Right now it's just -10k balance. Also stripe banned my account 3 months ago because I was having 1% chargebacks. Is that going to impact anything?

I dunno if they're going to let go of a 10k loss that easily. If they don't debit your bank account then they'll maybe send your info to collections

at 10k, almost certainly

They will employ/sell your debt to a bailiff and they will chase you.

if it was $100, probably not, its not worth their effort. At $10k I would expect court/bankruptcy petitions unless you pay it off.

any known cases of this happening? do they get in contact first? or just wait x amount of time then auto sell to collections?

10k is worth the effort on stripes behalf, u never told us the reason of the chargeback....any merchant provider will come after u for fraud especially 10k

Are you in the US? If not I'd guess the chances are lower. I'm not a lawyer.
I found something on reddit talking about stripe chargebacks, maybe the info could help you dismiss it http://www.donotlink.com/gyjo

well I have a video game server. Some this person was playing it for the last 2 years. 3 months ago they claimed to win a lottery and started buying all their friends and themselves the most expensive things on the server. They got their creditcard locked by going over the 5k limit. They did unlock it. I did have them on skype. 2 months later the card they were using issued 40 chargebacks at the same time. The cardholder did unlock the card, and must have known about the payments. I remember when I had to unlock my card from going over my 5k limit they asked my all kinds of questions naming charges and stuff and asking if i was the person making these charges. So basically they told their bank and they were in fact the person making these purchases, then two months later went to the bank and said someone else spent 16k from their cc. Anyway it really smells like friendly fruad. Also their ip address matches their address on their cc. But even with all this evidence I don't think I could win because chargebacks usually default to the cardholder winning.

Document all this proof and present it to the dispute.

Do not let them win.

This person is clearly a cunt and you need to persue them. for $10,000 it has to be worth it for you?

I would seek legal advice ASAP

Looks like the buyer was using either a cloned card or stolen card. owner found out and that is why you got all of the chargebacks

It's depend. Some ppl might try to boost their account for free by exploit chargebacks.

Since it is video game stuff, the most painful strike is banned their game account. Don't delete the account, but freeze it with some message like "Your account is freezed due to some problem on Your payment. If You wanna continue to play it, please contact xxx". Once they contact You, ask them to pay all that fraudulent transactions with bank transfer.

With this, You have probability to get your money back. If not, Yes You lose your money, but they lose all that 2 years effort to built their game. Trust me, nothing pissed of gamers than account banned.

Buy me coffee if it's work for You.
